13:50 Cheltenham
One of the big handicaps of the day is this 2 and a half mile Caspian Caviar Gold Cup. As with each renewal we’re presented with a large runner field that is ridiculously open.
It’s currently 9/2 the field with the Nigel Twiston-Davies trained Al Dancer the clear favourite however with 17 runners you’ve got to look for a horse at a much bigger price.
Master Tommytucker has claimed success in his last two starts and aims to make it three in a row however despite his recent success his jumping continues to be very suspect and in this much bigger field he’s going to find it very tough.
Stablemate Saint Sonnet looks an interesting type because it’s rare we see jockey Aidan Coleman team up with Nicholls but as with Master Tommytucker his jumping is questionable.
Course and distance winners Cepage and Midnight Shadow have what it takes here at Cheltenham and look my biggest threats but at a price it’s the Skelton trained ROMAIN DE SENAM that gets my vote. Far from a prolific winner however he’s produced solid performances here at Cheltenham when under the tutelage of former trainer Paul Nicholls. 2nd in a Fred Winter and a solid 5th in the BetVictor Gold Cup reads as solid form and with the yard operating at a near 33% strike rate he cannot be dismissed, especially as he now sits below his last winning mark.
At around 20/1 he looks to hold a strong each way chance.
ROMAIN DE SENAM (E/W)
