14:40 Market Rasen A decent Graduation Chase around the Lincolnshire venue and Kilcrea Vale cruised around Ludlow 28-days ago and there looks more to come from this son of Beneficial in this sphere. Nicky Henderson’s charge was a comfortable winner but may have been more troubled if Westren Warrior had remained upright but he was travelling much the best before the Newland runner fell. Zamdy Man has franked the form and so would have Cyrus Movrivere if not unseating when clear at Doncaster two fences from home. The way this seven year old travelled suggested there was plenty more to come and in a race of a similar make up he can strike once more. It’ll be interesting to see what shape Hester Flemen is in after a 400-day absence. He jumped with precision at Catterick on chase debut back in December 2015 when making all and if going to the front might set a good pace for Kilcrea Vale to aim at. He looked an exciting prospect on the northern circuit, so hopefully he’ll show some of that spark. Three Musketeers won the Grade 2 Berkshire Novices Chase back in November 2015 and has contested in some decent races since. He didn’t run too badly in the JLT at the Festival when fourth but last time his jumping looked off as he kept going to the right, so coming here looks a logical step for Dan Skelton’s inmate. The cheekpieces have been applied and if they are able to get him to concentrate and help him then he’ll be a threat in the finish. KILCREA VALE (WIN) – NAP
14:55 Newbury A competitive 14-runner Handicap Chase over three miles where Potters Corner looks to have leading claims. Paul Morgan’s charge has only had two starts over fences and has shaped with promise on both. He was fourth in a good novice chase at Ascot and the form is working out well with the winner going in again, the second winning and the third running creditably. The handicapper has eased him 2lb for that effort and he’ll like the soft ground underfoot. Davy Russell gets the leg up and he enjoyed a successful trip to these shores last week with a double at Hereford. Charlie Longsdon’s ten year old Bob Tucker is back down to his last winning mark and that saw him win, completing a double, at Kempton back in May in a race similar to this one. He seemed to tire last time over a trip further than today, so the drop back in distance should suit but he might be better on quicker ground. I’m a fan of Monbeg Gold, who wears blinkers for the first time. The son of Gold Well seemed to hit a brick wall when fading tamely here last time and if that was a blip then he should go well. Little Jon is now becoming well handicapped after running in some tough races. He has stamina in his pedigree but he has shown little to the eye. His last win came here, so that might spark something from this nine year old. POTTERS CORNER (E/W if 9/2+)
