15:05 Kempton Olivers Hill has recorded all three of his chase victories at today’s trip on good-to-firm ground, with his last win coming in a higher grade off a mark of 105 in December. He races today off 113 having by been dropped 3lbs for a two length defeat last time out and although was staying on over the longer trip he should benefit from the drop back today. Furthermore, jockey Nick Schofield has decent strike rates both here at Kempton and when riding for Mrs Lawney Hill and is in great form with three wins from his last five over larger obstacles. Ypsilante was a solid second when last seen, beaten by a subsequent winner but also beating a next time out winner at the same time. His only career victory came over nineteen furlongs but has raced over further so shouldn’t be inconvenienced by the extra furlong he encounters here and with Sean Bowen taking over in the saddle, a jockey with a 33% winning strike rate when riding for Tom Weston, he looks to be the main danger. Nicky Henderson has done consistently well with his chasers at Kempton so Clondaw Banker also deserves a mention. He is yet to fire over the larger obstacles but has winning form at this trip over hurdles and is 5lbs better off here so cannot be discounted. Olivers Hill (WIN)
16:05 Newmarket Marco Botti and Harry Bentley have both been in good form over the last few weeks and they team up here with Al Hamdany who was last seen finishing just a head behind D’bai in a Listed contest at Pontefract. He was almost two lengths clear of third placed Forest Ranger who has since returned to action with a commanding three length victory at Newcastle just last week and the fourth from that race has also won since so the form looks to stack up well. The obvious danger is the early favourite Salouen who has won twice on good-to-firm ground and has made the frame in seven of his nine career runs, including two at Group level towards the end of last season. He will likely prove a warm order in the betting with Ryan Moore taking over in the saddle and on known form rates the one they all have to beat, however trainer Sylvester Kirk’s record of zero from fourteen at Newmarket tempers enthusiasm somewhat. This is a competitive looking race and all remaining runners have shown enough in previous races to be able to get involved, with Montataire in-particular worthy of note on the back of his Listed success at Salisbury last year. Al Hamdany (WIN)
