RACE PREVIEWS & TIPS (TUESDAY)

Wetherby 15:30 Early favourite Future Gilded arrives here on the back of a hard fought victory at Catterick on New Years Day and has an 8lbs hike in the weights to contend with today. He was only a half length ahead of second but was almost twenty lengths clear of third so he may be able to carry the extra weight to victory, although does come with risks as he fell on penultimate run and made a couple of jumping mistakes before recovering to win last time out. Monbeg River has made the frame in six from nine over fences but the three he failed to get competitive in were all over today’s trip, while Wells De Lune won over course and distance on penultimate run but was well beaten of his revised mark next time out so we are going to take a chance on Sue Smith’s Dartford Warbler. His recent form hasn’t been anything too special however he has only raced over hurdles so far this season and today sees a return to the larger obstacles off a 6lbs lower mark than when runner-up in this race last year. His last victory came over fences and he has made the frame four times over similar trips to today so looks to be a bit of value at early each way odds of around 8/1 with three places on offer. Leicester 16:20 Miss Mash was an impressive twelve length winner over a slightly shorter trip on penultimate run and although she couldn’t follow up under penalty a week later she’s been given a few weeks to recover and returns in what looks to be an easier race. She has ground conditions to suit again here and her trainer Henry Daly has an excellent record over hurdles at Leicester with three wins and two placed from six in the last three years. Flobury had the beating of Miss Mash when second on penultimate run but put in a poor performance both before and since and has been pulled up twice from three attempts over this trip. She is yet to gain a victory in twelve career attempts but has made the frame in 50% of all runs over hurdles so deserves a mention. Kayflin won over today’s trip last time out but this was her first career victory in twenty three attempts and she’s been hit with a 9lbs rise so a follow up doesn’t look a given, while the remainder are even harder to fancy with either no recent form to speak of or completely unproven over the trip.
