RACE PREVIEWS & TIPS (TUESDAY)

Southwell 15:00 On a rather uninspiring day of racing we take in two races from Southwell, the first being a class 5 handicap over fourteen furlongs. The early favourite is Katie Gale who is a previous winner over course and distance and was a good third here last time out, over a trip two furlongs further than she encounters today. She is still 3lbs higher than when successful over course and distance but has won off a higher mark on turf so could play a part now eased slightly in class. Pinwood has been holding his form well in 2017 with a win and two placed efforts to his name but tries a new trip and a new surface so the bigger danger looks to be Eurato who has won twice and placed twice from four attempts over today’s trip and has only finished outside the top three in once race from eight since joining Steve Gollings. Preference however is for Noguchi who is now 4lbs below his last winning mark, has won three from seven over today’s trip and has an excellent record at Southwell having made the frame in 66% of all runs here. Furthermore he is re-united with in-form jockey Silvestre De Sousa who was in the saddle for three of the twelve year olds last four victories so his booking today looks significant. Southwell 15:30 Our second selection today is Shearian who is unbeaten in three over course and distance since joining Declan Carroll, winning last time out by over two lengths (with the third a further three lengths back) despite being heavily eased close home. This looks to be a tougher race and he has been upped a further 9lbs but his victory was so commanding he still looks capable of further improvement. There are dangers aplenty with Zoravan, Captain Revelation, Anton Chigurgh and Boots and Spurs all previous winners over track and trip and capable of getting involved if arriving on a good day, however the biggest danger looks to be bottom weight Playtothewhistle who was third behind the selection early last month but re-opposes on 13lbs better terms and is partnered with Silvestre De Silva for today’s race.
