15:55 Doncaster Doncaster is a very niche course so previous course and distance winners Flash City and Pearl Noir have already got a massive tick in the box marked positives. Flash City is likely to go off favourite and with a victory and a second placed finish in his last two visits to this premier Yorkshire racecourse he’s worthy of his spot as market leader. However at the age of nine you have to question just how much he’s got left in the tank when he’s facing much younger and fresher legs. Pear Noir seems quite overpriced as Scott Dixon’s charge certainly has what it takes to mix it at this level. He’s not the most consistent of runners but would be a likely threat to the selection if he decides to put his best foot forward. Just Us Two comes from a yard who are finding the winners enclosure very readily in recent weeks. Robert Cowell has a 25% strike rate in the past fortnight and he seems to have his horses in very good order. We may not have seen the best of this five year old gelding and he looks to have conditions in his favour this afternoon. He contested class two handicaps earlier this year and a drop all the way down to class five seems well within his capabilities. One that looks to have slipped under the radar that hopefully us shrewd punters can capitalise on. JUST US TWO (WIN)
20:50 Epsom The sixth and final race on the card on “the downs” at Epsom sees the sprinters take centre stage in a hotly contested six furlong affair. Asphan Sam aims to rack up consecutive course and distance wins after victory here seven days ago. A three pound rise in weight shouldn’t be too much to contend with and he’s bound to be there or thereabouts but he isn’t one for being overly consistent and our selection lies elsewhere. Huntsmans Close lies a staggering twelve pounds lower in weight than when last winning and surely still has a little left in him but he’s not come close to winning in a long time and although he’s capable of finishing in the places a lot would have to be taken on trust and there’s no guarantee he’ll return to his best today. The horse that gets the nod is David O’Meara’s Highland Acclaim. With a course and distance victory in his locker and with a decent run when finishing second on his penultimate start he’s expected to go well. The softer going wont be a disadvantage and at a decent price this Yorkshire based runner isn’t travelling all the way to Epsom for a holiday. HIGHLAND ACCLAIM (WIN)
