15:25 Brighton As punters we all like taking a risk and our first selection of the day optimises that. Many of you will undoubtedly look at the odds for our tip and think we must’ve been dropped on our heads as a baby. We tipped a 25/1 winner last month (Mattmu) so stranger things have happened and as such I wouldn’t let a generous price perturb you from backing El Torito. A course and distance winner who’s undefeated here at Brighton. Pat Cosgrave is a multiple Group 1 winning jockey and takes the ride and the horse has a previous win on softer ground so conditions won’t be an issue either. Trainer Jim Boyle has had a recent winner to boot and if the horses recent gelding operation can make him settle better and bring about improvement he’ll have a great each way chance. I genuinely feel bookmakers are missing a trick by pricing him so generously and I hope punters can take advantage. It’d be silly to ignore the obvious chances of fellow course and distance winner Black Caesar who’s worthy of his slot as betting favourite but as he climbs up the weights his task is made much harder and at such a short price doesn’t represent much value. An alternative who could get into the mix is Sarangoo who acts well here at Brighton and could finish placed. EL TORITO (E/W)
17:25 Brighton We have to wait until the final race on the card before our bet of the day runs at Brighton. Amateur jockeys by name but not by ability as these young riders take centre stage in this contest. With eight top four finishes from nine runs here at Brighton World Record clearly loves it at this venue and with a win in this race back in 2015 on the same ground conditions and with the same weight he’s bound to go very close. Trainer Mick Quinn bagged a winner at Ascot’s Shergar Cup meeting pretty recently and has a 20% strike rate in the past fortnight he’ll have our selection raring to go. The addition of Kieran Shoemark in the saddle also aids World Record’s chances of victory. Top weight Papou Tony and bottom weight Port Lairge look the most likely runners to get in our way but I’m hoping Papou Tony’s lofty weight will be too much of a burden and Port Lairge’s lack of recent form should be enough to see both finish behind our tip.
