RACE PREVIEWS & TIPS (MONDAY)

14:50 Carlisle On paper this looks a nightmare of a race for most punters with only a handful of runners ever tasting success. That being said I hope to have unearthed a contender worth backing that may be a generous price. Trainer Jedd O’Keeffe has a handful of dual purpose horses who contest both flat and jumps races and he has one here in Toola Boola. It’s true that this seven year old is yet to taste victory in eight starts on the flat but I’m hoping the rain soaked ground should play into his hands. A recent hurdles race, where he was far from disgraced, should have him fit and ready and after a third in his last flat start shows he still retains ability. It’s true that he is open to younger and more progressive rivals but if experience can count for anything he has a better chance than most may think. Of the remainder top weight Melanna has a chance dropping down in grade and with Scottish trainer Iain Jardine doing well at the moment Cool Run Girl could also play a part as could Royal Icon who also has potential. 16:25 Carlisle An intriguing six furlong race where the James Sullivan ridden bottom weight Redarna looks set to go off favourite. An encouraging trio of consecutive third place finishes shows he has the ability to go close but his unwillingness to get his head in front when he’s been close so many times is less than encouraging. Beverley Bullet has done well on soft ground but it seems an awfully strange move for him to now drop down to such a short trip and the logic of that is lost on me. Flyboy hasn’t won in his last fifteen runs but represents the top yard of Richard Fahey and the booking of jockey Paul Hanagan also catches the eye. Some very encouraging efforts this season has seen him go close so he clearly has it in him to put in a good effort. I’m hoping the addition of blinkers will bring about the improvement needed to see him finally get his head in front once more. FLYBOY (WIN)
