RACE PREVIEW
KEMPTON 13:50 – (BET OF THE DAY)
The ladies take centre stage in this fillies maiden contest, the second contest on the card at Kempton.
There’s a trio of newcomers who are taking their first step into the racing world but unfortunately none of them look remotely close to world beaters on paper and minor roles are their likely fortunes this afternoon.
Cape To Cuba has been very consistent with four placed efforts in six starts, likely to be there or thereabouts once again but is probably open to a few classier opponents.
Although Choose and Beyond Recall have very viable reasons for punters to back them I’m going with the Andrew Balding trained Meccabah. A few solid efforts on turf this summer including a decent run behind multiple winner Road To Dubai last time seems like decent form but the fact she returns to the all-weather looks like a huge positive. She’s only ever raced on an artificial surface once before when second here at Kempton back in April. She was narrowly beaten by Time Chaser who went on to win her next two starts before placing in a top handicap at Newmarket. A repeat of that form would be more than enough to dominate a field like this and if a return to the all-weather can spark a mini revival then a trip to the winners enclosure looks highly likely.

MECCABAH (WIN) – NAP
RACE PREVIEW
PLUMPTON 15:10
Despite the fact Fixed Rate is a pretty clear favourite I see this two and a half mile hurdle race as a three runner affair in which the favourite doesn’t enter my calculations. No doubt the curse of the pundit will strike again as it absolutely hacks up later on but Vive Le Roi, Mr Grey and Searching make more appeal.
Mr Grey may need the run after nearly a year away from the racecourse but he’s a consistent type who has the added bonus of Daryl Jacob booked for the ride.
Searching represents a yard in absolutely blistering form as Gary Moore’s runner also returns from a lengthy lay off but was winning comfortably when last seen on a race course.
This all said however I feel Vive Le Roi will improve markedly for his reappearance run just over a fortnight ago. A pleasing fourth placed finish should have brushed off the cobwebs and this lightly raced six year old may have some room for improvement in what looks quite a competitive race.
