RACE PREVIEWS & TIPS (FRIDAY)

19:20 Hamilton The Scottish Steward’s Cup handicap look like one of the highlights on one of Hamilton Park’s richest ever race nights. The higher prize money on offer has attracted a competitive field for this 6f handicap sprint and it may pay to side with Paul Midgeley’s star speedster, Naggers here in this one. The horse has enjoyed a bright start to the season with a win and second place already to his name this term. The run over 5f at the Curragh in the Rockingham is best ignored as the race wasn’t run to suit and the 6f trip is probably his optimum these days. The horse won the sprint handicap over course and distance this time last year and looks primed to land the spoils here on route to the traditional Steward’s Cup at Glorious Goodwood next month so he gets the confident nod. Dangers will likely come from experienced campaigners such as Jack Dexter and Get Knotted, but the main danger will be from a rejuvenated War Department for the Keith Dalgleish yard. NAGGERS (WIN) – NAP

19:55 Hamilton The Glasgow Stakes is a listed contest run over 1m3f and has traditionally had some very smart winners of the race, who have gone on to much bigger and better things. One horse who might just do that this year is the Roger Varian trained Defoe. The horse took a bit of time to find his feet when disappointing twice on track after winning on debut, but he has looked a new horse this season winning both starts so far in commanding fashion. This further step up in trip promises to unlock further improvement still in the unexposed three-year-old and he gets the nod to land the hat trick and take home the feature prize at Hamilton with his yard back among the winners. Mark Johnston sends Frankel off spring, Frankuus here on a bit of a recovery mission after somewhat stalling in his career after a promising start and he would be the main danger to the selection. DEFOE (WIN)
