RACE PREVIEWS & TIPS (FRIDAY)

15:40 Sedgefield The Pipe yard know the time of day when it comes to quality bumper horses with Moon Racer being just the latest classy horse to progress to make a decent prospect for the Cheltenham Festival this year over hurdles. The yard have had two winners from their last five runners in bumpers at the track and they look to have sent another fascinating prospect in Timeforben. The horse makes the journey up to Sedgefield from the Devonshire base and he is something to take note of as he looks to enhance their sterling course record. The horse was purchased by Juggernaut owner David Johnson after an impressive point to point success over 3m and has all the pedigree to be the latest star to carry these famous colours for the Pipe team. The form has been franked by other horses behind it that day and there is a lot of buzz which has only been added to by Tom Scudamore making the journey for this his only ride of the afternoon. He should take all the beating and gets the confident nod. The main danger will likely come from Carlos Du Fruitier for trainer Ben Pauling and the booking of Richard Johnson in the saddle is certainly an eyecatching one. Warren Greatex has a fantastic record in bumpers so Major Davis will likely be another who will take a close hand, but expect the selection to have too much for these before going on to bigger and better things. TIMEFORBEN (WIN)

18:30 Dundalk Red Avenger quickly rattled off back to back wins for new trainer Damian English after the switch from the Ed Dunlop yard. He looks to hold the re-opposing rivals Reckless Lad and The Mouse Doctor on that form, but both those meet him on better terms tonight. The latter of Red Avenger’s wins was a nose success over another re-opposing horse in Chestnut Fire and he went up a further 3lb for that so is now 11lb higher and may be vulnerable tonight especially to the aforementioned Chestnut Fire. Mick Halford’s charge has been in the form of his life and just failed to reign in Red Avenger last time over 7f staying on all the time towards the finish. They meet again tonight over the 1m trip and this coupled with the handy 5lb claim from young jockey Conor McGovern can see him get his revenge tonight so he is the confident pick. Eight time course winner Political Policy can never be ruled out at this track, and despite being out of sorts of late, it would not surprise to see him run a big race at a huge each way price should the principles fail to fire.
