A 50% strike rate at a certain venue for any horse isn’t something to readily ignore and that’s exactly why Brierdale looks a decent shout for the penultimate race at Redcar this afternoon.

Jockey Paul Hanagan seems to be entering the twilight of his career however he’s still more than capable of riding a fair few winners. He climbs on top of the James Bethall trained runner who was victorious in the Zetland Gold Cup here last season. The six year old clearly acts at Beverley, will appreciate the drier ground and has a lot less weight to carry than when last tasting victory. Priced by many bookmakers as a rank outsider but that seems pretty unfair in what looks a very winnable contest.
