With seventeen runners set to go to post it makes deciphering this six furlong contest an almighty task. Nevertheless it’s the Eddie Lynam trained Clare Island that looks very appealing. I made a mental note of the horse after seeing it race 10 days ago. The four year old filly was given an “interesting” ride to say the least. Held up at the rear she was given no great chance of victory as she was boxed in behind a wall of horses. When she finally got a clear run she stormed home but it was too little too late. If today is the day she’s going to put her best foot forward and get a better ride then a big run at a big price may well be on the cards.
Zeeyalater now resides on a very attractive mark and as such is an obvious rival.
Pillar put in an improved run to finish third last time out and a reproduction of that effort will see him in the mix.
Another worth noting is Mo Henry who also sits on a handicap mark lower than he’s won at previously so if he returns to his best he’ll be a viable contender but his yard are way out of form.
All that being said we take a chance on Clare Island who may have been saved for a race like this.
