RACE PREVIEW & TIPS (WEDNESDAY)

16:30 Southwell After contesting Class 4 handicaps at Haydock, York and Newmarket last summer it’s interesting to see the Ruth Carr trained Meshardal set to line up in a Class 6 race on the all-weather. Not the most prolific victor who’s without a trip to the winners enclosure since 2017 today could be his day that he adds an extra 1st to his form figures. Lightly raced on the all-weather don’t let that deter you too much as his record here at Southwell is pretty eye-catching. Six course and distance runs have resulted in two wins, three seconds and a third placed finish (half of which came in a higher grade). Southwell is a very unique course and a horse who has form here has a huge positive. Despite the six month absence if the nine year old is fit after his break he’s highly unlikely to be out of the frame. With a fair few fellow course and distance winners in the field it’s not going to be easy for our selection with the ultra consistent Gorgeous General likely to be in the thick of things once again, especially if the addition of blinkers eek out further improvement. Likely to be bigger odds both Elliott The Dragon and Dream Ally could go well at bigger prices. Never the less Meshardal is a solid shout especially for a horse who acts very well here at Southwell.
