RACE PREVIEW & TIPS (WEDNESDAY)

Polyphony created a favourable impression when winning on her seasonal comeback at Ayr and only just failed to follow up, when a head second here a couple of weeks ago. Uncomplicated as regards to going preference, her proven ability to knuckle down and fight looks a major positive should this get tactical and she looks to have a favourites chance. Being a three year old, Caustic Love receives weight all round and arrives here on the back of an easy course win last time. From the in-form yard of Keith Dalgleish, she deserves plenty of respect although this is tougher and she is unraced on turf without plenty of juice in it. Supaulette and Harvest Day have plenty to be advised on though the vote is handed to Polyphony, who looks as progressive as any of these.

Here at Salisbury I love following the royal blue silks of Godolphin (They have a higher than 20% strike rate here at the course) and as they have three runners there today it’s one of said trio that I’m going to side with. In the fourth contest of the day which is the best race on the card there looks to be a decent handful of runners that certainly have the ability or potential to scoop top spot.

Starting with course and distance winner Power Of Darkness he’s won here before beating fellow rival Wahash but his most recent effort was disappointing and the handicapper looks to have got to grips with him. Wahash has run well here before but isn’t the most consistent and looks one who’s difficult to place.

William Haggas has his horses going well of later and fellow course victor Nicklaus improved to finish third last time out. With Ryan Moore booked for the ride he has a very lively chance and is perhaps the one most likely to capitalise if our selection were to fall short.

Swift Rose is the horse that gets our vote and considering it’s only finished inside the top three once in her last five starts she perhaps doesn’t stick out as an obvious choice. Take a look beneath the bare figures and you’ll see a filly with bundles of potential. She finished 2nd in a Group 3 over in Meydan and followed that with an encouraging 5th in a better race after that. Her return to UK at York last month was pretty dissapointing but now as she goes handicapping for the first time she can go well in what looks a much less competitive affair than she’s been used to. With firmer ground expected and gaining a weight allowance due to both her age and sex then jockey Harry Bentley could be steering the youngest horse in the race back into the winners enclosure.
