We head East to take in a tight little six runner class 3 handicap where today’s NAP is set to enter the stalls.Whinmoor was most progressive last season for trainer Nigel Tinkler having won four on the spin and rising a staggering 40lbs in the handicap. That sort of improvement is certainly note worth and he could certainly improve further this season.The yard of Stuart Williams is set to run two in the race. Williams is a shrewd trainer and it would be no surprise to see the pair run well despite the fact that their form on face value looks ordinary. That being said both are fairly handicapped particularlySwift Approval and both have noticeable jockey bookings.Despite the above the selection goes to Lake Volta. A likeable tough Mark Johnston horse who featured in a lot of last seasons hot handicaps. Despite the fact he has to shoulder top weight it’s interesting the trainer has sent him on the long trip from Yorkshire and has booked the services of Ryan Moore. An adaptable type regarding ground conditions who you should see take the lead and not stop going under Moore.

LAKE VOLTA (WIN)

The opening contest from the seaside venue at Brighton is a race where five of the seven expected runners have already won here at the course before so it may seem interesting to note that today’s selection doesn’t hail from this quintet.Shamshon may not have won here previously however a second here back in October show’s he should handle conditions with ease. The Ian Williams trained eight year old has been contesting races of a higher grade and hasn’t run in a Class 4 contest since winning at Wolverhampton back in January. Dropping down to this grade and with 7lbs less weight to carry should give this sprinting stalwart a very good chance of adding to his ten career wins to date.Little Boy Blue and Crystal Deuville wont be far away however both seem to have been gripped pretty tightly by the handicapper and that may be enough to put pay to their chances of victory.Another course and distance winner worth noting however is Arzaak who has a decent course record, has a healthy handicap mark and may be somewhat under the radar after a string of disappointing all-weather performances. I’m hoping that Shamshon has a touch of class in comparison to the Charlie Wallis runner and as such is taken to finish with his head in front.
