Eight year old Poyle Vinnie has been tackling top level handicaps for years and hasn’t raced in a Class 4 contest since November 2014. That was a whopping 44 starts back and a lot has changed since then. Claiming victory that day he returns to this grade looking for a repeat performance after two encouraging recent efforts. A very big player who certainly has enough to keep his rivals at bay but I’m hoping the burden of top weight will be enough to ensure he ends up in the minor money.
Another runner with an almighty chance is the Paul Midgley trainer, course and distance winner Elysian Flyer. A very encouraging seasonal reappearance saw the six year old finish a very credible second but as the bank holiday sun continues to shine the firmer surface will hinder his chances.
Another Midgley trained runner worthy of note is War Whisper who looks to be somewhat of a “dark horse”. A decent return to action after changing stables shows he has the ability and if improving further to mix it at this level should drastically out run his current double figure odds.
The horse that gets the vote is very much in the twilight of his career as Bogart looks to build upon recent encouraging performances. It’s no secret that the Kevin Ryan yard are on fire at the moment bagging winners left, right and centre. The ground shouldn’t be a concern and if the addition of blinkers can bring out an ounce of improvement then hopefully the 56 race veteran can return to the winners enclosure.
