By far the most successful jumps jockey in the north at the moment is Brian Hughes. If he turns up at a meeting anywhere north of Birmingham expect him to bag a winner or two and it’s rare he leaves empty handed. There’s no surprise to see him have a ride in every race here at Ayr and the fact he stays around until the last should be an indicator that he’s got a decent ride. He’s set to climb aboard nine year old Ollisu Lad who produced an eye-catching effort when here at Ayr most recently. He only raced over a shorter trip that day so the step up to three miles is a massive plus. He has the softer conditions that should be beneficial and with Hughes onboard should have a fantastic chance to bag his first career victory.
Course and distance winner Bertalus should have a decent chance as should its stable mate The Bishop. A case can be made for quite a few in what looks a very weak contest so if Ollisu Lad can improve marginally it won’t take much for him to come out on top.
