18:10 Newcastle The second race on tonight’s card from Newcastle sees a horse return to prime conditions in a race he is more than capable of winning. Five year old Rainbow Rebel last raced over the course and distance seven starts back in November. On that day he finished a close second in a Class 2 contest with a handicap mark of 87. This evening he drops down to Class 4 company and has a whopping seven pounds less weight to carry. Trainer Mark Johnston has grabbed a handful of winners in recent weeks and should go close to adding another here. Theglasgowwarrior has taken really well to all-weather racing this winter and has barely put a foot wrong in all four starts in an artificial surface. Has the potential to pick up place money but this looks a tough task from out of the handicap. Sam Missile looks a serious threat after bagging a very credible second last time out. A drop in trip shouldn’t be too much of a concern and a sixth in last years Northumberland Plate shows he has a touch of class so should give the selection plenty to think about. A slight mention also has to go to the rank outsider Be Perfect who’s a former course and distance victor. A shadow of that form in recent outings but a return to that level of ability could see him do far better than his odds may suggest. Rainbow Rebel (WIN) – NAP
