Rod Millman looks to have a strong hand in this contest. Master Grey and Singing The Blues are the trainers runners who look likely to be at the head of the market.
Master Grey has a little to prove after a moderate effort last time, but looked on an upward curve before that, and could continue to improve.
Singing The Blues has improved greatly this season, proving to be very consistent. Only two pound higher for his latest second place (form franked) looks sure to run well.
Simbirsk and Champ De Reves also feature towards the market leaders. But with a lot a rain around, any further softening of the ground would have a detrimental effect on their chances on all known form.
Highfaluting a former inmate of the now retired Luca Cumani is the selection here.
Now in the capable hands of Newmarket trainer James Eustace, who does exceptionally well with a small team of horses.
This horse is obviously a slow maturing type, who made his debut as a four year old, less than a year ago. Handicaps were always going to be the route for him, and he has duly made a respectable start.
His sire High Chaparral is an influence for stamina, and this step up in trip looks sure to bring about some more improvement.
Any further rain will not be an issue based on his second last time out on soft conditions. He looks a progressive type and hopefully can take this contest.
HIGHFALUTING (WIN)
20:30 Carlisle
The penultimate race of this evenings card from Carlisle sees eight former winners set to lineup in the stalls but tonight’s selection is not from the list of former victors.
Instead we side with a horse making her handicap debut in the form of the Roger Varian trained Regal Banner.
The Chevely Park owned three year old is beautifully bred and she wouldn’t need to be anything special to win what looks a pretty poor handicap. She will need to improve somewhat but her 4th at Nottingham looks decent enough form and it’s hard to rule out a horse from such a powerful stable.
Polyphony has been really consistent and should come again for her winning return. By far the biggest threat to our tip but perhaps lacks the class or potential of a few of these.
Course and distance winner Forever A Lady and stable mate Epona should definitely be considered and are worthy of appearing on anyone’s short list however the likelihood is only minor money is the best they can hope for.
