Over the last two years local trainer Richard Whitaker has posted ten of his seventeen victories here at Pontefract, with Round The Island gaining four of these. He is yet to win off a mark this high and usually comes in to his own as the season progresses but with forecast good-to-firm ground he should have optimum conditions and could sneak a place.

Foxtrot Knight is a prior course and distance winner off a mark of 68 and has also placed twice off a mark of 73 so would be of some interest racing off 65 today, however his lack of consistency means he isn’t guaranteed to build on his second at Wolves earlier in the month.

Super Julius didn’t look comfortable in three runs all-weather at Dundalk but performed with credit when fifth of twenty-three when switched back to turf at Navan last month and is partnered with in-form jockey Joe Fanning for todays’ race. A prior winner off a mark as high as 82, he finds himself dropping back in to a Class 5 off just 62 and is two from two when racing in Class 5 races so looks capable of getting back to winning ways today.
