RACE PREVIEW & TIPS (MONDAY)

17:05 Ayr

Trainer Richard Guest is currently running at a 33% strike rate with his runners over the past two weeks and sends six year old Lady Joanna Vassa up to Ayr on the back of a more encouraging run in her last race. As she continues to drop down the weights (now 7lbs less than her last winning mark) I’m convinced that she’s being saved for a decent run. She has had a poor season on paper however she’s displayed glimpses of running well on a handful of occasions. This looks a pretty poor race and although she needs to improve on recent efforts she’s shown enough to make me keep the faith.

Jacob’s Pillow has been pretty consistent this year and after his 2nd here aims to go one better this time around, an obvious contender who is sure to be in the firing line.

An outsider worth noting represents the yard of Paul Midgley. One Boy ran well here at Ayr last year and returns to the scene of probably his best effort in the past two years with a whole stone less weight to carry. He may well have been laid out for this race and despite his recent poor showings could be ready to pounce on the handicappers leniency however I hope he’ll have to play second fiddle to our selection this afternoon.
