RACE PREVIEW & TIPS (FRIDAY)

14:40 Doncaster

Perhaps a tad stupidly but I’m opting for a horse I’ve somewhat followed off a cliff this term in the form of ABARAMA GOLD. He showed a much improved performance to go a close fifth in the Ayr Silver Cup on soft ground last time and looks to build upon that in what looks a less competitive race. The booking of Silvestre De Sousa looks very interesting for the Keith Dalgleish trained three year old who’s priced at around 14/1. He may not be quite up to this level but may have enough in the locker to sneak a place.

15:35 Cheltenham

I’m tackling the big handicap chase of the day down at Cheltenham and I’m siding with a horse who finished fourth in this race last year. Despite being eleven DOITFORTHEVILLAGE is back to his last winning mark and although he’s never won on seasonal return I’m happy to take a chance on him at around 22/1.

16:35 Newbury

The winner of this race last year when also run on heavy ground TERUNTUM STAR looks generously priced at around 7/1. Now 9lbs lower this time around, he has his heavy ground once again and returns to a venue he holds a 100% strike rate. All things point towards a return to form for this sprinting veteran.

Younger horses such as the ever consistent Roundhay Park and the interesting three year old Additional look likely to mount a challenge but I’m hoping the oldest horse in the race can claim victory in this contest two years in a row.

18:30 Newcastle

In my infinite wisdom I decided, whilst looking for my NAP to send to the Racing Post for today, would be SCARBOROUGH DEBUT. Don’t get me wrong I’m not regretting it as such but on second glance I’ve not half picked a tough race to call.

The likes of Twice Adaay who makes their handicap debut and has never finished outside of the top three holds obvious claims and seems overly generous at 10/1. At even bigger prices both Mezna, from the yard of Mark Johnston and Ayo Patsy could also spring a shock.

Never the less my selection comes from a trainer who loves a winner here at Newcastle and showed much more when third on handicap debut last time out. He seems to be improving with each run and with Paul Mulrennan booked I’m happy to take my chances.
