14:50 Lingfield A Fillies’ Handicap over six furlongs where Hughie Morrison’s Helfire is unpenalised for a recent win. That victory came under Charlie Bennett in an Apprentice Handicap at Windsor where she asserted close home and looked likely to be one who could go in again next time. She returns to the track just nine days on and with the fine form of the Morrison yard there is plenty to like about her claims. The market has found her but against her own sex she looks an interesting proposition. Tigserin was filed in the unlucky loser folder following her second at Kempton. Slowly away to finish a close second after travelling strongly but the handicapper didn’t miss that effort and has duly raised her 3lb. She has a win on the all weather at Chelmsford but I’m never sure about the strength of form from that venue. She conceded 10lb to Helfire, which might make it difficult. Belle Mare Plage comes back after a small break and she was last seen winning her maiden here in January. You can put a line through her last effort, which came on soft ground where she didn’t give her running over a seven furlong trip. The return to the synthetic surface is a positive, as is the slight drop in trip. The negative would be the coffin box in stall nine. Helfire (WIN)
17:10 Bath It has been said too often this summer but firm ground is available at Bath, a course that are unable to water. This five furlong sprint is one that dual course and distance winner Babyfact should relish. She was given a bit too much to do at Lingfield when second but the handicapper has dropped her for that effort meaning she is becoming well treated once more. Josephine Gordon is on board, able to claim 3lb, so she has attractive claims. The danger would look to be Captain Ryan, who won here two starts ago. When back here two starts ago he bumped into Go Amber Go and Jack The Laird, who have been in good form since then. That came from a draw in stall ten, so could be marked up and even though his draw isn’t ideal once again, this son of Captain Gerrard could finish in the frame. Ed de Giles had a bit of success last week and one of those winners was Carcharias. However the 6lb penalty and the drop from seven to five furlongs are the two concerns. Silvestre de Sousa takes over in the saddle and is a jockey booking that catches the eye – but he is 0-4 when partnering horses from this yard. Babyfact (WIN)
18:50 Naas For our final selection we head over to Naas for a competitive 20-runner sprint over six furlongs. Three year old Bearwood showed an improved level of form on handicap debut over a furlong further at Dundalk 63 days ago. He reappears wearing cheekpieces for the first time in an attempt to eek that extra bit out of this son of Canford Cliffs. If they go a really good clip then it could suit him. Future Icon is a filly in form having won her last two starts and has gone up 15lb for those successes. Ana O’Brien is in the saddle to take off a handy 5lb and with both of those wins being over course and distance she cannot be dismissed too easily. One worth a small each-way play is out of the handicap but Ucanchoose is a horse you can usually set your clocks by. The ten year old veteran in this field has eight career wins to his name – all in the month of July plus three further placed efforts in this month and add to the equation those wins have been off higher marks. He also has three course wins, so know his way along this course in County Kildare. Ucanchoose (E/W)
