15:40 Lingfield One of the more recent turf meetings at Lingfield turned out to be whoever could bag the rail would win, so a high draw is likely to be important once more. King Of Spin has won his last two for William Muir and is drawn in stall 10 alongside Red Stripes (stall 11). If Martin Dwyer gets him away smartly and gets to the rail then you can expect him to complete his hat trick. The son of Pivotal has gone up another 4lb for his most recent success at Nottingham but looked ahead of the handicapper, so he could have one more in him and this looks a very good opportunity. Ron Harris saddles two in this race and of that pair then Vincentti would be the more preferred. He’s a tough and consistent six year old, who tends to be slowly away and finds a useful turn of foot in the latter part of his races. If Oisin Murphy can come off the pace here then I’d be surprised but if running to a similar level as his last three runs then he’ll be thereabouts in the finish. Monarch Maid is one that is likely to race prominently and isn’t too badly drawn in stall 9, next to King Of Spin. Peter Hiatt’s charge has put together two consistent performances, something she hasn’t particularly done to often in her career. She made all to win at Salisbury in June and she is 6lb higher than that winning mark meaning she’ll need a career best. She is one to consider from an each-way perspective. King Of Spin (WIN)
16:20 Catterick William Haggas doesn’t send many north to Catterick, so when he does you sit up and take notice. He saddles the unexposed Julia Dream, who shed her maiden tag at the fourth time of asking at Windsor 23-days ago. Her mark of 82 is one that she could be ahead of entering handicap company for the first time. She is in capable hands and might have more to offer stepping up slightly in trip. This daughter of Montjeu ran well enough on her second and third starts, including getting her toe in at Salisbury, so the soft ground shouldn’t prove too much of a worry. Despite what the market says the main danger for me would be Nietzsche for Brian Ellison. He’s mixed it in better company than this of late and the drop in class is likely to see him to a better effect. He ran well enough to finish fourth behind the well-treated Robinnielly at Ayr when the trip was possibly too short. The return to this trip too is a further plus. Wotabreeze has the talented Adam McNamara in the saddle and he was seen to his best in the Ebor on Saturday. The 5lb claimer won over course and distance on this John Quinn horse in July by a comfortable margin however his two wins have been on good to firm ground and in lower grades. 18:40 Kempton This London Mile Series Qualifier has a run away market leader in the shape of Notary, who has only had two starts. Roger Varian’s filly held off the late attentions of Anabel to win by a short head at last year’s Glorious Goodwood meeting and this is her first outing since then. She doesn’t look too badly treated off a mark of 79, which she could prove here however with a question mark next to her fitness I’d prefer to side with something at a bigger price. Eve Johnson Houghton has had a wonderful season having already surpassed last season’s winners total. She saddles course and distance winner Reaver, who won here at the start of July and won quite nicely at Windsor when last seen. He’s proved he handles the track but the only concern for him is drawn in stall 11 but he did came from stall 9 to win when he was successful here. Overall he looks a strong stayer, so if they go off too fast he’s likely to stay on well. Blaze Of Hearts is an interesting player for Dean Ivory having had just three starts, two of which have been over further than today’s trip. He’s boxed in stall 12, which doesn’t really help but if breaking well he could try and put that stamina to show because he does tend to stay on in his races. North Creek has enjoyed running on the all-weather with plenty of joy. His second here in July is working out quite well, so could be another player in an open contest. Reaver (E/W)
