14:30 Bath A five-furlong sprint for apprentices to start and this is a track where Malcolm Saunders has a 22% strike rate this season. His Silverrica looks very capable of notching another win here and this a track she likes with three of her six career wins coming here – two of them on today’s ground. Georgia Cox has recorded two wins on this grey mare, so knows here well too. She won this race last year under the same pilot and despite being 3lb higher can make her present felt. Christopher Mason trained the second in this last year and his mare Edged Out holds solid claims with her good form at this venue. However a concern would be that she does her winning between April and July. That said she has been more lightly raced this campaign when compared to others, so should be fresher. George Wood in the saddle has to be a positive with him being one of the brighter up and coming apprentices. Go Nani Go could be the one who is overpriced. The ten year old hasn’t won on the all weather in May 2015 but he narrowly went down by a short head to Rosealee at this track three starts ago. He has failed to replicate that run in his next two starts things could play into his favour here. The son of Kyllachy is likely to be held up and with inexperienced jockeys they are likely to go a good gallop meaning he could come over the top late on. Silverrica (E/W if 9/2+)
15:20 Southwell A Handicap Hurdle over two miles and four furlongs from the Nottinghamshire venue but one that comes with health warnings. Ben Pauling’s Newton Geronimo has a bit of a naughty streak where he has refused to race but this son of Brian Boru has plenty of ability, which he has proved of late. The seven year old was a comfortable winner at Fontwell and Worcester in June but showed his attitude when refusing to jump with the field at Market Rasen on the last day. Despite his tricky nature and top weight he is worthy of chancing in an open race. Perfect Summer has been having a spin on the flat of late and came close at Chester 11-days ago. The mare returns over obstacles and when see was last seen over them she completed her hat-trick her over course and distance. This race is slightly more competitive than that plus her wins have been by diminishing margins. I’m willing to take her on in this one. Dr Richard Newland purchased Nikki Steel in May and has had some success with two wins next to his name. His latest win was a tactical affair with just two rivals to beat making it difficult to judge. There could be more to come with him being in the hands of a trainer that gets the best of his string. 19:00 Gowran Park We finish over in Ireland for a nine furlong handicap where 16-runners are set to go to post. Windsor Beach is likely to be well fancied on the back of his Leopardstown second 20-days ago where he did get a bump on the run in. Denis Linehan has been in the saddle on the previous three starts, including a win two races back but Seamie Heffernan takes over here, which will catch the eye for many. The blinkers are also on for the first time for this four year old. Jaqen H’Ghar, the horse not the Game Of Thrones character, made an encouraging return to the track when third not too far behind Windsor Beach. That was his first run for Joseph O’Brien and first effort in nearly ten months. He shaped well finishing his race strongly and for that reason you’d expect him to be much sharper. He progressed nicely at the back end of last year and looks likely to feature here. Charles O’Brien’s Zorba The Greek was a winner over track and trip in May and in his four starts since he’s been largely consistent bar one bad run when he missed the break and was eased down.
