The action for us starts with a Mares’ Handicap Hurdle at Market Rasen, which is a track that tends to have a front-runner bias.

Grimley Girl tends to go from the front and that proved successful when beating Mystic Sky here 34-days ago; the second has since won since giving the form a boost. Despite being a ten-year-old she has one of the better speed figures of this competitors and on the back of a win comes here in good heart.

Lady Persephone is the most intriguing. She is unpenalised for winning a Novice Hurdle at Wincanton. The daughter of Sir Percy is a galloping type and looks to have more to offer in this sort of company however at this track holds a question mark.

Miss Estela looks vulnerable at the top of the weight. She carries top weight and a wind operation seemed to help her when she won at Exeter two starts ago. After that victory Warren Greatrex did suggest that the good to soft ground was what she’d be best suited to, so the drying summer ground here at Market Rasen may turn against her.

A Fillies’ Handicap over the extended mile trip, which sees recent winner Haidees Reflection head the market.

Jim Goldie’s six year old stayed on well to beat Tellovoi at Ayr last time out and the handicapper put her up 5lb, which doesn’t seem entirely harsh after the second has recently won. He needs a career best off this mark and from his two runs at this track is yet to beat an opponent home.

Chelabella is one of the unexposed types in this line-up having only had four starts. Trained in Newmarket Michael Bell must think he’s found her a good opportunity to get off the mark. She’ll be fitter for her comeback effort at Wolverhampton but her form doesn’t seem to justify the mark of 70 she has got, even after being dropped for that recent effort.

With his yard starting to find the winners then Star Of Spring is interesting for Iain Jardine. This four year old does have to shoulder top weight and is yet to win in 15 starts but has put in some good efforts, previously for Charlie Hills including a good fourth at Windsor behind horses rated 75+ and a third at Newmarket behind Conjuring. Off this mark of 69 she looks poised to threaten the judge and having had a run should be ready for this.

Our final race is a 13-runner Handicap Hurdle around this sharp Devon track. It’s no surprise to see Unison priced up as one of the joint favourites.

Jeremy Scott’s six year old is two from four over hurdles since being recruited from the flat where he was a useful performer. Both of his wins have been going right-handed but tonight he’s going left-handed. He asserted himself well in the closing stages at Ludlow and definitely has more to offer.

Fort Carson is a consistent performer at the age of ten and was a commanding winner at Exeter two starts ago. He put in an equally good performance despite finishing second at Warwick. That run came seven days ago and his mark is unchanged but he is due to go up 4lb in the future, so he is one to consider of this mark.

Pinkie Brown is also due to go up a pound in the future and if recapturing his Juvenile Hurdle form then he could go close. The extra trip could be beneficial however he can be too keen. David Pipe’s Mango Cap has contested some warm races of late and hasn’t shown much since joining this yard but in a race of this nature is one to keep an eye on.
