15:40 Ludlow ( NH Flat, 1m 6f ) Its very rare I’d make a selection purely based on a jockey booking but the fact Jim Best has persuaded champion jockey AP McCoy to ride his once raced Outrath is probably a tip in itself. The interesting part of AP accepting the ride is made even more so when you consider he would have probably been given the option of riding the Rebecca Curtis trained The Clonsik Bug. The bumper Outrath participated in at Punchestown looked an above average race for its type and he most definitely caught the eye under a quiet ride in fifth, the drop in trip is unlikely to pose much of a problem and the fact he’s since changed hands for 90,000euros inspires enough confidence to give him the vote. Should he fail to fire Timons Tara maybe the one to take advantage, she finished second on debut in one of these and though likely to do better over an obstacle, her chance is clear. Selection: Outrath ( Win )
17:50 Kempton ( 1m 4f ) This looks a very moderate indeed with plenty arriving totally out of form and others having to prove themselves on the surface, there are some unexposed types though and this shouldn’t take much winning. Ballyfarsoon had shown very little in three maiden turf starts at around a mile and had been beaten out of sight in all three of them. It could hardly be considered a shock that he was stepped up half a mile in trip on his handicap debut at Wolverhampton the next time and rather predictably Ian Williams charge showed much more with a decent fourth, having met trouble in running. His latest run back at a mile can be ignored as he had shown nothing at that trip before so a chance is taken back up in trip that he can make the frame at decent odds. Uganda Glory has the form to take this and finished second here a couple of starts back, he ought to be a big player in this but has top weigh and is taken on as a result. The Yank comes here representing a stable firing at present, he has his chances but perhaps the biggest danger to the selection is Gios Last. He has won on the all weather in Germany and although he must overcome a 117 day absence, he may have been aimed at a winter AW campaign having shown nothing in two starts on the turf for Keith Dalgleish. Selection: Ballyfarsoon ( EW if 5/1+ )
19:20 Kempton ( 7f ) Spowarticus routed his opposition from the front over this trip at Wolverhampton twelve days ago and looks a big player with a soft lead there for the taking. Scott Dixon’s gelding must defy a nine pounds rise in the weights if he’s to double up, but he has every chance of doing so and must be respected. Time Medicean was backed as if defeat was out of the question over course and distance last time, he finished a costly second in the event though and is once again worth opposing if short in the betting. The likely strong pace on offer here should play into the hands of New Rich, he has three course and distance wins to his name and took this off a pound lower mark last term. His last two runs since the blinkers replaced the cheek-pieces have resulted in a third and second, with that aid once again in use today he is given to mow them down late on. Selection: New Rich ( EW if 5/1+ )
