He’s continued on the upward curve and the 6lb rise for that success could prove leninent in time given the way he travels through his races. It’s understandable to see him priced up as the early favourite. Aurillac was third behind Beware The Bear and despite a 7lb turnaround in the weights you think he’d need to tidy up in the jumping department because it’s been sketchy at best so far. He may be seen to better effect on soft ground or worse. Warriors Tale has taken well to fences and returns to this trip after his second at this track over shorter recently. Paul Nicholls’ charge should be thereabouts in the finish. Monbeg Gold caught the eye on his chase debut at Fontwell. He was second to More Buck’s and was giving the winner weight. In the closing stages this six year old was staying on, so today’s further trip could see him in a better light, plus . Jonjo O’Neill and Aidan Coleman have teamed up with a few winners in the last few days and this son of Gold Well, who wears cheekpieces for the first time, could add to that tally. Monbeg Gold (E/W)

13:40 Musselburgh Last year’s winner Royal Macnab is back down to the same mark and he is a consistent type when running from marks around the 112-115 spectrum. Rebecca Menzies’ horses are in fine fettle with her having five winners from 12 in the last two weeks. There is plenty to like for this eight year old, who looks well weighted to win for a second year running. Bright Prospect looks the main danger after his agonising defeat at Ayr 51-days ago when going down by a head. He’ll be suited by the conventions of the Musselburgh track with his two wins being at right-handed venues and this isn’t too dissimilar to Kilbeggan. Good ground suits, so he looks likely to go well. Formidableopponent racked up a five-timer in the autumn and climbed the weights but it is hard to rule out William Young Jnr’s charge based on how he was going at Aintree 11-days ago when being hampered and unseating Sean Quinlan. Derek Fox gets the leg up today and has won aboard this nine year old but most of this horses wins have been left-handed. Royal Macnab (WIN)

15:20 Musselburgh The final race on this card is a Handicap Chase over just short of three miles and Proud Gamble looks to build on his consistent performances of late. Two wins from five starts but has been hitting the frame, proving he has ability. He doesn’t do a lot when hitting the front, so Craig Nichol will have to deliver him at the right time and he did that here in November and with similar conditions he can go in once more. Mollies Gent was third behind Proud Gamble 42-days ago and Paul Stafford’s charge is looking to turn the tables. However he has a poor strike rate with one career win, which came at Perth back in September. Good ground or quicker is what he’s looking for, so any rain in the Musselburgh area would put his chances in doubt. Adam Short takes 7lb off, which is going to give him a chance to reverse the form but he showed quirks when he did win. Tim Vaughan is having a quiet time of things but he sends Broome Lane on a 368-mile trip to take her chance in this weak looking race. She carries a very low weight and wears cheekpieces for the first time. She won off a mark of 79 at Chepstow when showing she had ability but her two recent efforts have disappointed. It’ll be interesting to see if there is any money about for this mare and that could be a telling sign. Proud Gamble (WIN)
