PADDOCKS PATENT (TUESDAY)

14:40 Southwell We start our days preview’s on the fibresand. This looks a very wide open affair with a few of these in with a shout. Tartan Trip is three pounds lower then when he won at this course this time last year but that was over his favourable seven furlongs and he doesn’t seem to show much over a mile so can be overlooked here. Schottische has to go on the short list with her recent course and distance win last week; she has only been raised two pounds for that win and should go close again here today. The two that stand out to me are Glennten and Megamunch, the former has been in fine form this season on the all-weather and even though he looks harshly treated in the weights for his debut on this surface he can’t be overlooked as he seems to take to a variety of surfaces. The latter showed a lot of promise last time out over course and distance after dropping down the weights and even though he has been raised three pounds his jockeys claim takes that away and he can go one better today. Megamunch (E/W) if 4/1+

15:30 Taunton Our second preview is a handicap hurdle over two miles and one furlong. Box Office looks the early favourite and it’s no surprise as he won three out of four times over in France and with the champion jockey on board it has to be another positive but with no proven form in the UK it’s hard to really give a guarantee he can win this. Raven’s Tower seems to come good around this time of year and dually showed that last time out when just coming up short in the final stage’s, he can run off the same mark again today and should be in with a chance. Hawkhill won last time out but that was over two miles and six furlongs and this drop in trip may not suit as he seems to like a lot further than this and it’s why I’m looking elsewhere. My selection for this is Leviathan; he has plummeted down the weights recently and is dropping down in grade also which looks exactly what he needs to get back to his earlier form; his trainers yard has also been in very good form so far this season and that’s why he’s my selection today. Leviathan (E/W)

16:10 Southwell Our final preview is also the final race of the day at Southwell. Eium Mac has won and placed twice at this course this year and the drop in trip may suit as both his previous seconds he was only just caught in the final stages but the four pound rise in the weights may play a big part in this for him today and he may find one too good again. Top weight Risk ‘N’ Reward makes his debut on this surface and also comes off from a 167 day break; he showed a lot of potential at the end of last year with a very good second but he may just need this run to get race fit. None of the others here look like they are in with a chance with the exception of my selection Cyflymder; he may be the oldest horse in the race but dismiss him at your peril as he is down to a winning mark for this and he takes to this surface better than most; he also has the blinkers back on today and that’s what he may need to get in the mix. Cyflymder (E/W)
