PADDOCKS PATENT (TUESDAY)

15:05 Exeter

All selections today come from the Devon track and Gold Cup winning jockey Nico de Boinville (future Champion jockey in my eyes) has come down for one ride for Ben Pauling. The combination are running very well together recently and Kingussie has a good chance based on the recent progression of the horse. The argument can be made that the horse hasn’t built on his Stratford win on the figures but they were in better contests on heavy ground and it’s safe to say the horse didn’t enjoy it as much. At 5/1 he’s an each way prospect here in a field of poorish quality

Henryville may well be a short price at 5/4 but this is a contest he has been waited for with an idea for drier ground. The horse is also top weight too but that shouldn’t be as much of an issue as the ground is very decent in the South West. Is the horse value at the price though? The answer is not really, unless you’re a punter who likes to go with the favourite at a short price. Thomas Crapper is a festival horse who was only just beaten by Irish Cavalier, a horse who came 4th in this year’s Gold Cup. If the horse can recapture some of that form on favoured ground here then the early price of 5/1 may seem like an each way steal.

Three Faces West looks bred for this type of stamina test but also looks to have the pace to travel well on decent ground. Richard Johnson takes the ride on the Rooney owned horse and his defeat to Midlands’ national runner up Milansbar is the best form on offer here. The Champion jockey had a torrid week at the festival and will be looking to get things firmly back on track after a return to the winner’s enclosure at Taunton yesterday. Godsmejudge has a terrific chance based on his old form and despite a slight return to his old self recently would have to show that old spark more brightly to trouble the more progressive selection, though there may be another handicap in him somewhere soon on equally firm settings. Howlongisafoot and Wilton Milan may be best of the rest but Three Faces West at 2/1 at present could be a good bet.
