14:50 Ludlow Alberobello has a good record over fences and has made the frame in 45% of races over three miles, however struggles to get his head in front and was disappointing when pulled up last time out. Buck Mulligan has two wins and four placed efforts from ten runs here at Ludlow and has shown great consistency throughout his career, making the frame in twenty of forty-four runs over fences. He is now 1lbs below his last winning mark although hasn’t managed to get his nose in front since July 2014 and may have to settle for minor honours again today. Toby Lerone ran well last time out but has no wins from nine attempts over similar distances as todays’ race while Double Silver has won twice here over hurdles but is yet to find her feet this season with two uninspiring runs. Its fair to say that Generous Ransom failed to live up to expectations last season but as a result has dropped down to his last winning mark and has a 40% strike rate for making the frame when racing over fences. With many of the opposition arriving with something to prove today could be the day Generous Ransom gets back to winning ways. Generous Ransom (E/W if 9/2+)
15:10 Pontefract Stamp Hill has posted a win and close second since moving to Richard Fahey and makes his handicap debut on the back of a soft ground win at Chester in September 2015. He heads the market at just about an each way price but Richard Fahey’s runners didn’t really set the world on fire at Doncaster last weekend with just one placed effort from eleven runners so he is passed over today. Haley Bop will likely prove a popular choice with Silvestre De Sousa in the saddle and Mark Johnston starting the flat season with two winners and a placed effort from five runners at Doncaster. However, despite two impressive wins over six furlongs last summer she hasn’t been seen since finishing last of twenty at Redcar in October and now has a bit to prove. Reflektor is a last time out winner on soft ground but hasn’t performed on return from a break previously while Candelisa has made the frame in three of four races over todays’ trip but may be up against it off his new mark so preference is for Explosive Power. Explosive Power was a ready winner over six furlongs on soft ground at Redcar on penultimate run and wasn’t disgraced when fifth in a listed race when last seen, just three lengths behind the odds-on winner. Furthermore, trainer Karl Burke has a decent strike rate at Pontefract with 57% of runners making the frame here over the last twelve months so with the promise of more to come from his three year old he is the selection in what looks to be a competitive race. Explosive Power (E/W if 9/2+)
16:00 Ludlow Noche De Reyes arrives here on the back of a hard fought course and distance win last month but has only been raised 2lbs, has a good record here at Ludlow and has won on good and good-to-soft ground so shouldn’t be too inconvenienced by a bit of rain. Furthermore, this is trainer Tom George’s only runner on the card and he has been placing his runners well recently, boasting a 41% winning strike rate over the last two weeks. Tornado In Milan has a 50% strike rate for making the frame over a two mile trip, has won twice over hurdles since the turn of the year and was a respectable second last time out when returning to larger obstacles. However he is yet to win in three attempts here at Ludlow and may end up looking at minor honours again today. The best of the rest looks to be Such A Legend who is yet to win in four attempts over fences but has put in some respectable runs in defeat and has a decent record of three wins and two placed efforts from eight runs over two miles. Noche De Reyes (WIN)
