PADDOCKS PATENT (TUESDAY)

14:50 Warwick Highbury High has placed second on his last two runs, agonisingly being caught in the final few strides last time out but still thirty lengths clear of third. He races off the same mark today, a mark he has been successful from previously, and returns to a longer trip where he has won one and placed twice from four attempts. His trainer Neil Mulholland has sent nine runners here over the last twelve months, leaving with three winners and two placed efforts. Furthermore, jockey Noel Fehily has a 22% winning strike rate over the same period and, when teaming up the trainer/jockey partnership have won with 20% of their 166 runners. Whos De Baby is yet to notch up a victory in sixteen career attempts but has placed in three of his last four runs. This doesn’t really tell the full story as in each of these three placed efforts he hasn’t looked like troubling the winner and is likely fighting it out for minor honours again today. Of the remainder Daulys Anthem has only won once from seventeen career runs but has placed three times from four attempts over fences so has to be considered in with a chance, while Badgers Retreat is yet to fire in 2016 but has won and placed off higher marks here at Warwick so could be a big danger if re-discovering some of last years form. 15:10 Beverley Early favourite Double Up has already been well supported at the time of writing and looks to be a worthy favourite based on a close fourth in the Portland at Doncaster last time out and having won three times over five furlongs in 2015. His trainer Roger Varian and jockey Andrea Atzeni both have great records here at Beverley with independent winning strike rates of 29% and 27% respectively over the last five years which further enhances his claims, yet odds of under 2/1 don’t look particularly generous considering the opposition so i’m happy to look elsewhere. Hay Chewed has won four and placed in five from twenty over the minimum trip and arrives here on the back of a convincing victory at Leicester last time out, going from the front for an all-the-way victory, beating Ornate by just over a length. His earlier form this year isn’t the greatest but he has been working his way back to form and won a listed contest in 2014 so looks a decent price at early odds of around 7/1 especially when considering he keeps Silvestre De Sousa in the saddle, a jockey at the top of his game at the moment with a great record here at Beverley. Ziggy Lee is two from two over course and distance and hasn’t been far away in his last couple of races, albeit in lower grades than he encounters here, while Eastern Impact has won at Group and listed level over six furlongs and although better suited to the longer trip would be dangerous to dismiss down in grade here. 16:05 Lingfield Sir Mark Prescott has a 27% winning strike rate here at Lingfield over the last five years yet sends just one runner for today’s meeting, entered in a race that he won in both 2013 and 2015. Luke Morris was the jockey on both occasions and he is called upon again to partner Tyrannical. A solid third on first attempt over a two mile trip, the form of this race has started to work out well with the winner placing in a Class 3 race and the runner-up winning just yesterday. With a win and placed effort from three on an all-weather surface he looks to have leading claims to continue his trainer and jockeys impressive record in this race. Denmead steps up in trip and has a 6lbs penalty to contend with for an almost four length victory last time out. This was his first win in nine runs but he’s placed twice on the all-weather previously so should go well and will be a danger if handling the extra couple of furlongs. Both Dynamo and Lily Edge are previous course and distance winners so should be respected despite both looking out of form, while Maria’s Choice arrives on the back of a victory last time out but has only managed one placed effort in seven here at Lingfield.
