PADDOCKS PATENT (TUESDAY)

Wolverhampton 15:10 Ominotago was an eight length winner at Southwell last week and if turning up here in the same mood could prove tough to beat. However, a 6lbs penalty will likely make things tougher and a step up in trip coupled with a record of just one placed effort from three at Wolves tempers enthusiasm somewhat. Eurato returns from a six month break but won on return from a similar hiatus when making his debut for the Gollings yard and has since has won three from three over todays’ trip including one here at Wolves. Partnered with in-form jockey Martin Harley and taking a 1lbs drop from last time out he has to be the selection here. Of the remainder, both Start Seven and Mahican make their tapeta debuts for their respective new yards while Blue Top won his last two on the flat but both came on turf and is yet to emerge victorious in three attempts at Wolves so the biggest danger looks to be Monna Valley who has been holding his form well and has winning form at the course. Eurato (E/W if 9/2+)

Lingfield 15:30 Arden Denis was a point-to-point winner in his earlier career but was arguably lucky as the leader fell at the last when travelling well. His only other career victory came over two and a half miles in December 2014 and he has since only managed one run, finishing fourth on debut for N Mulholland last month. He is again partnered by Noel Fehily who has made the frame in seven from eight rides in the last three years over hurdles at Lingfield and with a recent run under his belt can be expected to improve today. Trainer A J Honeyball has only sent four runners over hurdles at Lingfield in the last three years, producing three winners for a 75% winning strike rate. His only runner on today’s card is Act Now who returned from a fourteen month break with a solid third at Fontwell on Boxing Day and should be suited by conditions given that his only career victory to date came in a bumper on heavy ground. He is yet to attempt a trip this far but stayed on well at Fontwell and is partnered by in-form Aidan Coleman for today’s race so is worth chancing at early each way odds given the trainers record here. Act Now (E/W if 9/2+)

Wolverhampton 15:40 Early favourite Ardamir placed third on his only previous run over track and trip however was over three lengths behind the winner and runs off the same mark today. He’s had two runs since (one over hurdles) and would need to improve to get competitive here but the booking of Adam Kirby, an in-form jockey with a 24% winning strike rate over the last 12 months at Wolves does catch the eye. At the prices preference is for course specialist Tangramm who an excellent record here at Wolves, winning five from six at Wolves and only missing out by a head in the other. A previous course and distance winner and with two wins from two over todays’ trip, he returns to the tapeta following a couple of below par runs on the polytrack at Kempton and has cheekpieces re-applied for today’s race so could be primed for a big run. Hermann won a maiden here on penultimate run but was only seventh of nine when stepped up to todays’ trip last time out so the bigger danger looks to be Threediamondrings who has made the frame in four of five on the all-weather and although has gone up another 2lbs for a placed effort last time out he hasn’t been beaten by far and looks to have the scope to improve further. Tangramm (E/W if 9/2+)
