PADDOCKS PATENT (MONDAY)

16:10 Kempton

Open The Red was doing all of his best work in the closing stages when last seen out at Goodwood. He chased home Dartmouth in a far better event than this and it would not be the biggest surprise to see him build upon that here. The step up in distance was clearly not an issue for him, so a drop in grade should see him go close today. Pat Dobbs has ridden him twice in the past and now that Amanda Perratt knows he has the potential to stay this far, he has to be high on any shortlist.

Return Ace has done nothing wrong in two career starts to date. She was perfectly poised in her last race over this course and distance when partnered by Freddie Tylicki when the duo kicked for home and they won by a relatively easy four and a half lengths. This looks much tougher this afternoon but James Fanshawe has trained some excellent fillies in his time and she looks open to further progression. They look sure to be the biggest dangers. Saumur has improved with each start and is another filly that recorded a first career win here last time out, she slips in at the foot of the weights and can make the frame at decent odds.

Open The Red is open to further improvement at this trip and with relatively low mileage on the clock he can progress again.

Open The Red (WIN)

17:10 Kempton

Power Game remains completely unexposed and now dips his hooves into handicap company for the first time this afternoon. His only career win to date came at this track and trip when last seen out twenty eight days ago. Saeed Bin Suroor and the Godolphin operation have their horses in excellent form at present and it would be foolish to dismiss the claims of this likely improver. He clearly has a liking for this surface and has to be considered despite facing the toughest opposition of his relatively short career.

Dutch Law has remained progressive all year and chased home Rifle Range in a handicap at Ascot back in July. He has not been sighted since but this drop in grade could well see him defy a seventy one day absence to record a second career win. Si Señor heads the weights and is a multiple course and distance winner. He was not at all suited by the way his race panned out last time but he still managed to finish mid division in a competitive handicap. He too shall appreciate the drop in class as he bids to secure a first win of the season.

James Doyle has ridden Power Game in each of his last two races and he ought to know a bit more about his partner this afternoon. There are more races to be had with this this son of Shamardal and he can go onto better things in due course.

Power Game (WIN)

17:30 Leicester

Mrs Warren is beginning to look like a very well handicapped individual. Having won off a mark as high as sixty nine in the past, the handicapper has started to relent and she gets in off a lowly sixty two here. She was not disgraced when beaten at Chepstow on her latest outing and with young amateur Chris Meehan back in the saddle, the combination look sure to build on a placed effort that they achieved at Lingfield a couple of starts back.

Good Luck Charm returned to winning ways at Brighton last time out when thumping Mendacious Harpy by seven lengths. If arriving here in the same sort of form he looks set to be the main danger. He certainly improved for the application of a first time tongue tie last time out and it looks significant that connections have reached for its use once again. Barista is a versatile sort and the experienced handicapper has amassed six career wins so far. Consistency has never been his forte but he is a previous course and distance winner and that will stand him in good stead here. He looks destined to be amongst the places once again.

George Baker has his string in excellent form at present and has sent out no fewer than six winners from his last twelve runners. The yard tend to come into their own around this time of the year anyway and Mrs Warren should be another that is able to give another decent account.

Mrs Warren (E/W if 9/2+)
