PADDOCKS PATENT (MONDAY)

Jetstream Jack has always promised to be a horse filled with potential. Having made a winning debut under rules for Gordon Elliott he was considered good enough to go straight to Cheltenham for the Champion Bumper. He never really found his stride in fairness and a lack if experience clearly told as he trailed in second last. Connections then put him away for the summer and he made a pleasing return to action when chasing home Archive at Galway. Since then he has won at Clonmel and then bumped into the likes of Up For Review and Thomas Hobson on his two most recent outings. There looks to be nothing of that calibre here and he looks the one that they all have to beat.

Blue Rambler is expected to provide the sternest opposition to the selection. He never really amounted to anything when trained by Charlie Appleby but it seems that the move to John Ferguson has done him no harm at all. He was a fair third to Champagne At Tara when last seen at Cartmel in December. With further improvement likely, he can chase home the selection. Carthage was unfortunate not to win over two miles here last time. This step up in trip is expected to suit a Brian Ellison’s charge and he can make the frame once again.

Jetstream Jack is partnered by Richard Johnson this afternoon and when he and Gordon Elliott have joined forces in the past 12 months that have accumulated a strike  rate of 25 per cent. With further improvement still to come from this six year old it is hard to ignore what seem very obvious claims.

Seychelloise has been in excellent form of late having finished in the first two places on her last seven starts and she has recorded three wins during that time. Two of those victories came over this course and distance and Sir Mark Prescott clearly feels that she can still be competitive off this sort of mark. Luke Morris is once again tasked with the ride and with most of her rivals bang out of form, it would be of little surprise to see put in another decent effort and go very close here.

Peril looks the most obvious danger to the selection. Simon Crisford has been having a good time of things since obtaining his training license and his lightly raced five year old makes a first appearance in almost six months. This son of Pivotal won at this track and trip following an even longer absence last season and they command utmost respect. Hillbilly Boy comes her trying to win off a career high mark but he is a dual course winner. He was a gallant third in the Ayr Siver Cup last season and comes here on the back of a two month layoff. He has place claims in what looks to be a fairly open race.

Sir Mark Prescott is a master of all weather handicapping though and he has won with six of his last ten runners at various synthetic tracks. Luke Morris has been on all of those and they may well have a fitness advantage today.

Rat Catcher is a dual course winner and showed that he was coming back into form when chasing the reopposing Quantum Dot at this track last time. He is one of the more frequent winners in the line up and looks to have a decent draw in stall three. Rob Hornby was on board for both of his previous wins around here and he stall continues to utilise his three pound claim.

More Spice has only had a handful of starts but he finally managed to get his head in front at Lingfield last time. Jamie Spencer keeps the ride on the four year old and now that his mount has a new found confidence, they could well prove the flies in the ointment here. Quantum Dot was allowed to boss his rivals over this course and distance three weeks ago. He may well find today’s opposition a bit tougher and he may have to settle for a minor role now that he has also gone up in the weights.

Rat Catcher clearly knows his way around Dunstall Park and he can confirm recent form with Frank The Barber. A repeat of his most recent run would see him in the shake up and it wouldn’t be the biggest of shocks if he wee to grab a third victory at the track.
