14:55 Ascot Noble Silk is of real interest in this tricky two mile handicap now running off his last winning mark with a run under his belt and upped in trip. He returned in good form when a running on sixth over a mile and six at this course two weeks ago. That was his first run in 202 days and he’ll be much sharper today over an extra two furlongs. Going back over his form of the last couple of years and he’s yet to finish out of the frame on his second run back after a break. Josephine Gordon claims 3lb off his back which is an added bonus and he looks a big player at a decent price. Continuum like the selection has dropped to an attractive mark and seems to be running into form, he was just behind Noble Silk two weeks ago and although he’s never ran over this trip he looks like a horse that will see it out and is another with a chance at a nice price. Sea Of Heaven is likely to go off favourite and is one of the more obvious types. He disappointed on his return at Newcastle but took a step forward at Newbury a week ago. He runs here off the same mark and is probably the one to beat. Boite hacked up at Goodwood last month on soft ground and has his work cut out off 8lb higher in a better race this time while Nakeeta is a model of consistency and will certainly go well off the same weight. 18:05 Down Royal From a two mile handicap at Ascot to a five furlong handicap at Down Royal and Midst is the one that really catches my eye in this one. She was beaten just over two lengths in a much stronger race than this two weeks ago over six furlongs and has been dropped 4lb for that run. She’s trained by Dermot Weld for Khalid Abdullah and I cant imagine her connections would keep trying with her if she was just as good as her rating of 59 suggests. She drops back down to five furlongs today after been tried over six and seven the last couple of times but interestingly her best line of form to date has come over five when finishing third in a maiden behind Doc Sportello (now rated 82) back in April. She’s been giving a real chance by the handicapper and i’d be very surprised if she wasn’t good enough to go close in a race of this nature. Catwilldo doesn’t win much but always runs her race and will more than likely be thereabouts again today with Killian Leonard claiming a very useful 7lb. Calm Bay won last time out and was giving 5lb for that but comes here in good form unlike most and is of obvious interest. China Eyes is another that looks well handicapped and is a big danger as is Patience A Plenty who wears blinkers for the first time and her connections will be hoping they have a positive effect on her on only her second handicap start. 20:00 York This one mile handicap at York has been dominated by David O’Meara in recent years and if he wins it again this year they might as well just call it the ‘David O’Meara’ race and his chances of landing it again are pretty strong with both Alejandro and last years winner Hes No Saint representing him this time around. Hes No Saint is the one I’ve sided with to regain his crown as hes dropped back down to an attractive looking mark of 87 just 2lb higher than he was when running away with this last year. He’s no doubt been disappointing since then but showed signs of a return to form last time and has been dropped a further 3lb for that. Danny Tudhope prefers him to Alejandro and with the ground in his favour too I’m expecting a big run from the selection. Alejandro may be seven now but hes a very genuine horse and is enjoying another fine season. He’s been raised 3lb for his latest second and that may be enough to stop him winning this. Muntadab and Stardrifter have been running well without winning of late and are players once again with preference for the David Loughnane trained Muntadab who has the stronger form. Woody Bay is another who’s been running well and was second in this last year while Ingleby Angel deserves a mention now running off 9lb lower than her last winning mark although her form around York is far from inspiring and her trainer is really struggling. Imperial Focus is the only three old in the race having his first run in a handicap and is interesting off bottom weight on just his fourth career start. He’s No Saint (E/W)
