PADDOCKS PATENT (FRIDAY)

14:35 Haydock This looks extremely competitive and Haydock deserve a pat on the back for attracting such a strong turn out at this time of year. Tiger Jim looks sure to be popular after his fine 2nd at Ayr last time. Up 2lbs for that effort he has to be respected but I get the impression he was ‘supposed’ to win the last day and so he is taken on. Flyman has a little to find with Tiger Jim on running in the Bronze Cup, he is consistent though and at the prices he is very tempting to run into a place. Mississippi is on a winning mark and is another who wont mind the ground, along with Beardwood, Westwood Hoe and Straightothepoint they all have chances. Mass Rally has now gone two years without winning and has been campaigned in rather peculiar fashion lately when twice running over 7f. On both them occasions he travelled extremely well before finding very little under pressure and this drop in trip looks certain to suit. At double figure odds and on a feasible mark, he is taken to finally end his drought, though he will require luck from his draw. Mass Rally (E/W)

15:55 Redcar Ian Jardine’s Newmarket Warrior has attracted strong market support the last twice and is expected to do so again today. A strong traveller when 3rd at Ayr over a mile the last day, he rather threw the race away when hanging under pressure. Clearly a backward type, and yet to win having had over a dozen attempts, he still makes plenty of appeal and if David Allan can play him right on the jam stick, he is selected to finally reward the faith his followers have placed in him. Totally Magic shed his maiden tag the last day and comes here only 3lbs higher, he should be thereabouts but the 2nd he beat last time has an exposed profile and the form may not be up to much. Ad Vitam almost got a tentative each way selection in this having twice won around the course and having placed in a big field handicap here off the same mark the last day. He really should play a part once again but I suspect the money will come for him and as such, he can only be given the main danger tag as value probably wont be there. Secret City and Star Cracker are both tough sorts whom warrant respect and though looking up against it Lavetta would be a most interesting sort if attracting market support. Newmarket Warrior (WIN)

17:25 Downpatrick Vic Approach was a very impressive winner when jumping fluently and basically destroying his opposition at Tramore the last day, the drop in trip today looks unlikely to be much of an issue and though he has a 6lbs penalty, it would be most disappointing if he failed to play a major part. Old Castletown was beaten when falling three out at Tramore last time, he made a few too many mistakes that day too and is unlikely to offer much value at the odds. Heist is tough but rather fluffed his lines when strongly fancied at Hexham and The Mooch, though consistent looks exposed. Polish Partisan put in a much better effort the last day and would be interesting if building upon that but most have something to prove and Vic Approach looks the safest option. Vic Approach (WIN)
