PADDOCKS PATENT (FRIDAY)

14:00 Lingfield

Richard Fahey’s string have been firing all year and produced another winner at Southwell yesterday, their representative today is massive class dropper Majestic Myles. A winner at Ayr in October in a class 3 he now finds himself in a claimer and though he is probably more effective over further, he really ought to be winning this and anything would be disappointing indeed. Showtime Star likes it around here and has chances, he will have to be bang on his game to win however and probably needs Majestic Myles to bomb. Peace Seeker is another with chances, he looks to be the pace angle today and could well take some catching. Rather off puttingly however his victory here was in a seller and although Doctor Parkes is capable, catching him right is about as hard to predict as the lottery. The rest look total no-hopers though Yeeoow could become more interesting down the line, especially when returning to Kempton.

Arbeo landed this contest last season off a 2lbs lower mark when routing the opposition from the front and a repeat looks on the cards this time around despite his welter burden. A fair 4th in a much better race the last day proved his wellbeing and at a venue where he is 2-3 ( 3rd in the other race here ) he is handed the vote to lead them a merry dance. Bus Named Desire needs respecting in receipt of 12lbs and is a mare in good nick, a winner for this yard she ran another fine race when 2nd the last time and if Arbeo was to go off too quick, she looks the one most likely to take advantage. Veauce De Sivola is 0-9 over fences but will handle the ground and is well treated, along with the exposed Basford Ben they look the only viable alternatives.

In all likelihood it will take a very good performance for any of these to turn over likely odds on shot Briery Belle, who finished a very good 3rd in a much better race the last day. A reproduction of that showing here from Henry Daly’s mare really ought to be enough but she is starting to looks a little exposed and anything with a touch of class could leave her vulnerable, despite this she is a very worthy favourite and must be respected. Caitys Joy returns from an absence of 404 days and makes her debut over obstacles today. A decent sort in bumpers she has the scope to be anything I this sphere and hails from a yard known for getting one ready first time up. The forecast soft going will be no issue to her here and though she has a lot to prove in terms of jumping, her pedigree strongly suggests she will pay her way and despite the obvious short-comings today she is handed the vote to turn over the favourite. The rest are extremely difficult to fancy but Midnight Silver is probably the one likeliest to cause an upset should it happen and she is seen as the only alternative should you wish for a long shot.

Caitys Joy (WIN)
