PADDOCKS PATENT (FRIDAY)

13:50 Market Rasen A few of these are unexposed and open to improvement and Herons Heir stands out like a sore thumb on that note. From a yard in good form he is likely to be a strong favourite and has to be of interest on his handicap debut. A fair third at Bangor the last day was probably better than it looked as he pulled very hard and paid for it late on, improvement is highly likely in this sphere however and though he is taken on, he needs a good deal of considering. Course and distance winner Renoyr ran a puzzling race at Kelso the last day and may be more at home over this trip. Generally a consistent sort he wouldn’t have to show much more than usual to be a serious contender in this and a repeat of his victory here two starts back could well suffice. Kudu County will almost certainly pop up in a race of this nature before too long, his recent spills however are off putting but market strength would be interesting. Edward Elgar is 2-2 and is another with chances, he mustn’t make some of the mistakes he made when winning the last day though and this is definitely tougher than anything he’s been in before. Sailors Warn is another to consider and this ground ought to suit him, second behind an unexposed sort the last day he deserves to pick up a race and his chance is clear. The rest are difficult to fancy but Renoyr offers decent value at the odds and is taken to take some money home. Renoyr (E/W if 9/2+)

14:00 Lingfield This looks very warm indeed for the time of year and a whole heap of todays entrants have something to recommend on. Boom The Groom has run well on numerous occasions here and finds himself on a winnable mark judging on last seasons exploits, a course and distance winner he has every chance of being bang there again today and he makes plenty of appeal. An uncomplicated type, his wide draw might not be the major negative it appears and a repeat of his fine second here when just failing to reel in Lancelot Du Lac offers plenty of hope he will cope. Spring Loaded is in tremendous form and will likely prove popular with punters, he needs to prove himself around here though and this is a much better race than the ones he’s been winning. Steelriver makes his debut for the Baron yard and makes plenty enough of appeal of his current mark, he cannot afford to be asleep at the stalls however and his failure to win last season is off-putting for one with such talent. Boomerang Bob is officially 4lbs well in for this and is in decent form having won two of his last three. Drawn in stall two he really ought to give it a very goo shot from the front, he will have company for that role however and as such he is taken on. Barracuda Boy is interesting despite his high mark, he is another to consider but again, he likes to lead. Anonymous John has finished second on his last couple of starts and is another to consider, the probable hot early pace will play very much into his hands and he is considered the main danger to Boom The Groom. Boom The Groom (E/W if 9/2+)

15:05 Lingfield Realize is 2-2 here and finds himself on the same mark when chasing home a decent type at Chelmsford the last day. A tough and consistent sort he rarely fails to run his race and is respected once again today. Stable-mate Lunar Deity finally bounced back to form when trotting up at Chelmsford a few weeks back, up 5lbs and down in trip today makes things much tougher but he could go on from that and is another massive Stuart Williams player. Russian Realm was a real eye catcher when third over 6f here the last day and is bound to be popular today up in trip today. Quite what Richard Hughes can do with him this season is interesting but on only his third run on artificial surfaces he probably deserves to go off favourite but he will have to prove last time was no flash in the pan. Mr Bossy Boots latest effort is best ignored as his saddle slipped, another unbeaten here (2-2) he is a likely player once more and market strength would be a major positive despite the class rise. Shyron won this off a 1lb mark last season and is a very big player this time around. Second over 6f here the last day he will likely enjoy a good pace to run at and ought to be bang there at the end for his in form yard. Bertiewhittle would be of more interest on turf but Al Khan is very capable and could outrun his odds, the rest are difficult to fancy and so Richard Hughes’s Russian Realm is handed a tentative vote. Russian Realm (WIN)
