PADDOCKS PATENT (FRIDAY)

19:40 Doncaster

A whole host of these have claims but a couple stand out and as there is 18 runners we will take a stab, with four places on the table. Free Code is bordering on being a course specialist and has a win over todays trip to his name. Only a couple of pounds higher than his last win here he should find this much easier than the hot race he contested at Ascot last month and has his favoured faster going. Crazy Chic is another course and distance winner with claims and he seems a proper 7f horse, he does look better suited to the all weather though and is passed over today. Hakam is totally unexposed and could turn out to be better than these in time, his form doesn’t quite match the best of these but he is a serious contender and he will relish the faster going today. Old timer Hawkeyethenoo has shown himself to be no back number on numerous occasions since winning the 2012 Stewards cup, now dangerously well handicapped it is likely he will strike before too long and he is massively respected. Slemy, Highland Acclaim and Fiftyshadesofgrey all have something to recommend on but a chance will be taken on Hawkeyethenoo nailing them all late on.

19:50 Goodwood

Formerly trained by Gary Moore, Marmalady made no mistake when winning over 5f here on debut for Bob Cowell and looks likely to play a part he again, despite the 4lbs penalty. Links Drive Lady has won this twice and is only 1lb higher than when winning it last season, she is almost impossible to predict but evidently this is her time of year so she must be respected. Stellarta is as hard as nails and doesn’t know how to run a bad race, 2lbs well in today she is the most trustworthy of this bunch and given that fact, she is handed a strong each way vote to nothing. Dancing Star has more on her plate here than when winning the last day, she is clearly improving however and her yard specialise with similar sorts. Kassia is worth monitoring in the betting, a good 2 year old she won well when last seen and is entitled to go close under De Sousa if fully wound up.

Stellarta (E/W if 9/2+)

20:10 Doncaster

The betting would suggest this is a straight shootout between the totally unexposed Alsvinder and Majestic Hero. The latter won at Newmarket and failed by only a short head to back that victory up at Pontefract the last day. Three pounds well in tonight he looks guaranteed to go close and is respected as the one to beat, especially with Spencer back on. Alsvinder was an expensive purchase and he showed a fair level of ability when finishing third on his racecourse debut at Thirsk, out again at Newcastle a few weeks later he built upon that effort when readily winning and looks a could be anything type. Trainer David O’Meara has a cracking record with similar types and though he has to prove his toughness against some more experienced types here, he is taken to improve and prove too hot to handle. Bosham and Pearl Acclaim hail from yards amongst the winners and are worthy of respect, as is Course and Distance winner Pearl Noir who seems the likely pace setter.
