PADDOCKS PATENT (FRIDAY)

14:45 Wetherby Not seen for over a year Hadfield has moved to a new trainer who is currently on fire and having winners regularly. Hopefully this may bring about further improvement and given she is in good hands today, I think she will more than do herself justice. Top Of The Glas won easily first time up at Hexham then followed up in a better class race at Sedgefield beating a reasonable yardstick in Our Reward. I think she will have to raise her game again to win this but that is entirely possible. FREDERIC is a horse I like and being one of the Rooney’s then we know it will be trying. I bet him when he won well at Market Rasen but he then didn’t quite see out the increased trip next time at Wetherby. They have brought him back down to two miles and I believe he has a big chance. Robinshill bolted up at Ffos Las in June then a week later ran second at Cartmel. I think that race came too soon because he did look a bit laboured that day. He then ran in listed class but looked out his depth so maybe this race is more his bag. Milrow hosed up at Perth in September beating King Julien by 16 lengths. Before that he ran third to a good one in Nachi Falls albeit he was well beaten that day. He will have to improve again to trouble the principles. Today Please was well beaten by a handicap blot last time at Ludlow. He is progressing well at his new yard and at the weights looks to be in there with a chance today. A tricky wee race but I do feel they will all have to be at their best to trouble my selection. Frederic (E/W)

15:00 Newmarket A listed race over 6 furlongs. CLASSICAL TIMES made a promising start when 3rd in a six furlong  maiden. This will be much harder and she will need to improve considerably to feature. Easy Victory won well first time out over six furlongs at Newmarket then next time pulled too hard and lost any chance. She looked a little outclassed in the Dubai fillies maiden but I would rather think she just didn’t stay. Loving looks a useful prospect who first time up was beaten narrowly by a horse called Rosie Briar. This horse bolted up this week which must add credibility to Lovings chances. Loving’s win next time out at Yarmouth was bloodless and therefore I do consider her to have a great chance today. Perfect Angel beat a nice horse of Richard Hannon’s over six furlongs in July at Goodwood. She has run some nice races in defeat recently and looks sure to run well. Spiritual Lady readily won her first race at Newmarket over six furlongs however it was a pretty slow time. She wasn’t far behind Mrs Danvers at Newbury but my feeling was that five furlongs was too short for her and she confirmed this next time when bolting up over six at Chelmsford. I think she could surprise a few today. The others don’t look to be serious challengers so my selection for this race is: Perfect Angel (WIN)

15:45 Uttoxeter A class 3 beginners chase where a number of horses have a chance. Charbel wasn’t far of the top ranking last year as a hurdler. Kim Bailey likes her and I am sure she will have been well schooled in preparation for this today. Likes to lead and if given enough rope in front might take some catching. Le Prezien comes from the leading trainer Paul Nicholls stable he will be keen to get some black type early doors for this promising recruit to chasing. She won and competed in some good hurdle races last season and will be fit enough to win this today. Solstice Star would need to improve on her run against Flying Angel to get near Le Prezien albeit this could be possible. Top Notch may have been boxing above her weight in her last hurdle race at Cheltenham when well beaten by Annie Power. Having said that I know Nicky Henderson likes her and thinks she will make a very good recruit to chasing. Today will tell us more. Le Prezien (WIN)
