13:40 Lingfield We begin today’s previews with the first race of the All Weather Championships at Lingfield. Hot favourite Cold As Ice won five in a row over at Kenilworth but has only won one of his last three since moving to the William Haggas yard and at such a short price and the worst draw in stall ten for today’s race, he looks one to take on. Instead we look towards the progressive Volunteer Point who has won four from six on an all-weather surface, including one here at Lingfield (over 8furlongs) when beating the re-opposing Bint Dandy and one over todays’ trip when setting a new course record at Chelmsford. Drawn in stall three he looks the biggest danger to the odds-on favourite yet at the time of writing is still available at an each way price of 5/1. Alfajer finished just behind Volunteer Point when last seen in a Listed race at Deauville in December and despite only getting his head in front once from twelve runs he has made the frame in seven and looks the best of the rest. Volunteer Point (E/W if 9/2+)
14:55 Wolves We move over to Wolves for our second preview, taking in a fascinating looking race with the three market principles looking to be the ones to concentrate on. Silver Quay has shown a devastating turn of foot in the final furlong to win two of his last three by five lengths and eight lengths respectively. He steps up in trip for today’s race but was finishing very strongly over twelve furlongs on his only other visit here, closing quickly to finish third so the extra distance may play to his strengths. However, Tom Marquand has now had three attempts on board without success so preference is for Gang Warfare. Gang Warfare has shown a liking for all-weather surfaces since switching from turf, winning his last three at Lingfield, Wolves and Southwell over twelve and sixteen furlongs respectively. Furthermore, his trainer Simon Crisford has been operating at a 25% winning strike rate on the all-weather over the last twelve months, which jumps to 35% here at Wolves so he looks sure to be in the mix. With no doubts about stamina he will be finishing strongly at the business end and could prove strong enough to repel the favourite. Two Jabs has won two of his last three and has a 60% strike rate for making the frame when racing here at Wolves. He is obviously in good form but needs to improve on his only previous course and distance attempt when finishing a well beaten fifth. Gang Warfare (WIN)
15:45 Lingfield Our final preview sees us return to Lingfield for the Easter Classic, a race won last year by All-Weather superstar Tryster. While he won’t be here to defend his crown as he is running in the Dubai Turf at Meydan tomorrow, we still have a strong field to dissect. Maverick Wave is without doubt a talented individual, with a 50% winning strike rate here at Lingfield and having won on multiple occasions over todays’ trip. However, despite finishing ahead of a number of today’s opponents in the Winter Derby in February he could still only manage second to the re-opposing Grendisar and in truth looks likely to be destined for minor honours again. Grendisar has won his last two with commanding performances, forging clear in the final furlong on both occasions to become the first horse to win back-to-back Winter Derby trials before winning the Winter Derby itself. He has only failed to make the frame in two of sixteen runs here at Lingfield (winning six) and although a short enough price he should have the class to come out on top again today. Winterlude is a winner of two from three here at Lingfield and has a 50% winning strike rate over todays’ trip. He arrives in good form with two wins and a second from his last four runs and could be capable of snatching a place at current odds of around 33/1. Grendisar (WIN)
