MISHRIFF AIMS FOR JUDDMONTE JOY

15:35 York

As a huge fan of Aidan O'Brien's filly Love, I was both surprised and a little concerned by her below-par performance when only third of five at Ascot last month, finishing almost two lengths behind the re-opposing Mishriff and lacking that spark that we have seen from her so often before. Her trainer boasts an excellent record in this race but the stable have rather surprisingly been struggling for winners in recent weeks so there is no guarantee that she will bounce back and with this in mind preference would have to be for the John & Thady Gosden runner who is at his best over this trip and has built up an excellent partnership with jockey David Egan, gaining four of his six career victories with Egan in the saddle.

Alenquer is another who failed to fire last time out, however got the better of Yibir in a Group 3 race at Sandown in April so a strong run from the Charlie Appleby runner in the Great Voltiguer earlier in the card would boost the form, while Mohaafeth was only a half length away from making it five wins in a row here at York last month and perhaps hasn't yet reached his peak so looks capable of getting competitive for a trainer very much amongst the winners in recent weeks.
