Mr Wagyu arrives here in excellent form having followed up a decent second at Beverley with an authoritative victory at Hamilton last week. He carries a 5lbs penalty for his troubles but has won off higher marks in the past so warrants plenty of respect.

Mr Orange hasn't beaten a single rival home in his first two runs this year, however as a result has dropped to his last winning mark and is always dangerous to dismiss here at Pontefract, having won six times over course and distance.

Magical Effect was an impressive three length winner over course and distance in April, beating stablemate Final Frontier and course specialists Round The Island and Mr Orange in the process. He couldn't follow up in softer conditions at either Ripon or York but the return to a faster surface and to a course where he has made the frame in six from ten brings hope that he can return to the winners enclosure here.
