15:35 Ayr - Scottish Grand National
After the English equivalent last week we see the Scottish National as one of the biggest races of the day.
As with any National it’s ultra competitive with a handful of course victors in the lineup and some promising types making up the 20+ runner field.
Irish raider Mister Fogpatches is the current market leader and should relish this longer trip. A solid 4th at Leopardstown was a decent enough run but I struggle to side with a horse, in a race of this nature, who’s yet to claim their first chase success.
A runner who certainly has had chase success is Soldier Of Love. Paul Nicholl’s runner Soldier Of Love racked up four victories on the bounce. An improving type who shouldn’t be far away but it’s somewhat worrying that he pulled up at Cheltenham last time out.
Two former course victors, who are priced at massive odds, can do far better than the market may suggest.
Lake View Lad fell at the first in the Grand National last weekend but is usually a solid jumper and with a victory at Ayr under his belt he can outrun his current 40/1 price.
Another course victor Oldgrangewood hails from a yard who are bang in form. The Skelton team have their horses flying at the moment and I feel the ten year old might thrive over this longer trip. He’s never finished outside of the first three in three course starts and looks a solid each way selection.
