15:00 Newmarket - Each Way Extra At bet365 Handicap
These young sprinters line up and are set to do battle in this ultra competitive cavalry charge.
The likes of Jumby who was relatively fancied in the Commonwealth Cup, returns to handicap company after disappointing at Royal Ascot last time out. He's sure to find the level of opposition much easier here but with 9lbs more weight to carry than his last victory he may find this too much of an ask despite his great form here at Newmarket. Shouldn't be far away but likely to find one or two too good.
Market principle Boomshalaa has done very little wrong this term in claiming two victories and a second in all three starts. He was so close at Royal Ascot in a similar contest and should be hard to beat here however there is one at a massive price that I cannot ignore.
I know that a horses two year old form doesn't always translate to their three year old campaign but if Cairn Gorm showed the same level of ability as last year he'd be sure to play a major part in this. A Group 3 winner at Deauville last year I'm hoping he'll relish this return to handicap company. A solid third in a listed race on return last month is one in which he can certainly improve upon and should be much fitter for that performance. What's also worthy of note is for all of the horses career victories jockey Tom Marquand has been in the saddle and he returns to take the ride today. At a massive double figure price I have a feeling he could go much closer than the bookies think.
Others worthy of note have to be former course and distance winners Jadwal and Akkeringa with the latter aiming to make it three wins in a row.
