GLORIOUS GOODWOOD – TV TIPS (FRIDAY)

13:50 Goodwood The Group 3 Glorious Stakes represents another tricky opener for day four of the Glorious Goodwood Festival. Jedd O’Keefe’s team have been bang in-form in recent months and his contender Lord Yeats comes in here seeking the hat trick, but his improving 4yo would have to find a bundle to trouble the principals here. This instead looks a straight match up between the Sir Michael Stoute trained Poet’s Word and the Godolphin star Frontiersman. The Stoute horse has failed to fire on today’s ground in two attempts so far, so preference is for the Charlie Appleby trained 4yo who seeks his first Group honours today having previously gone close on a few occasions. His previous second to Highland Reel in the Group 1 Coronation stakes is the best form on offer and he gets the confident nod to land this today. FRONTIERSMAN (WIN) – NAP

14:25 Goodwood The Thoroughbred Stakes is an ultra competitive looking Group 3 contest to be ran over the 1m trip. Royal Ascot hero Bless Him for the David Simcock yard comes in here full on confidence after landing the Britannia Stakes last time out with a narrow win over Ronald R. He look to hold that rival on that run, but the Michael Bell horse given the form a knock by running poorly since and winning jockey Jamie Spencer has now abandoned him for the progressive Luca Cumani trained La Rav. The lightly raced Footstepsinthesands colt has gone from strength to strength since its debut fifth, winning his last two races by a cumulative margin of almost eight lengths. The pedigree suggests he won’t mind the ease in the ground and he is pick to add a Group 3 win to his resume at a massive looking price. The main danger will likely come from Andrew Balding’s Beat the Bank, who has the assistance of Ryan Moore this afternoon. The Paco Boy gelding has won three of his four races and looks the most likely to pounce should the selection fail to fire. LA RAV (E/W)

15:00 Goodwood The boys in blue of Godolphin look to have the pick of the best runners in the Betfred Mile handicap. William Buick plumps for the ride on Blair House who will like the underfoot conditions and the pivotal gelding has only failed to make the frame in one of his seven races to date. He was runner up for the fourth time in his career last time out when trailing in behind the re-opposing Zhui Feng, but he now has a 4lb swing in the weights with that rival for only a 1/2 length defeat so he looks set to run his race again today. The value, however, may lie with his stablemate GK Chesterton, who is the mount of second jockey James Doyle. The horse was prominent in the market before finding the ground far too quick at Royal Ascot behind the two aforementioned rivals in the Royal Hunt Cup. That run is best ignored and he looks to have a massive chance here back on a soft surface that he has already relished with two victories to his name on the going. He looks a massive price and gets the each way nod in a competitive field. Of the rest, Richard Fahey’s Withernsea has form on the ground and is on a nice mark if he could rediscover his best form, so he rates the main danger to the selection. GK CHESTERTON (E/W)

15:35 Goodwood The feature race of the day is the Group 2 King George Stakes ran over the minimum 5f trip and it has attracted a number of Group 1 sprint stars. Clive Cox’s pair look to have outstanding chances here today. Priceless has already landed the Group 2 Temple Stakes this season and won’t mind the cut in the ground, but she has a bit to find with the principles on official ratings and may be playing for minor placings here. Stablemate Profitable, who was purchased by Godolphin, rates the yards best chance in the race and his best form is on soft going including the Group 1 triumph in the King’s Stand at Royal Ascot last season. This year, the horse ran a blinder behind the impressive Lady Aurelia, despite the ground being too quick, so he looks primed for a big run here and gets the nod to prevail in a tough race. The main danger is undoubtably the Sir Mark Prescott trained Marsha who won the Group 1 Prix De L’abbaye last term, but all of her best form looks to be on quicker ground. PROFITABLE (WIN)
