19:05 Dundalk We start the day off as we see all of tonight’s selections from The Emerald Isle and take in all-weather action from Dundalk. Our first selection is in Dundalk’s third race on their card. Unfortunately there’s only seven runners but that’s of no great concern as we’re going for one of the shorter priced runners. Edward Lynam has had a great 2014 and enters four year old filly Wishyouwerehere. The horse seems to do well at the track with four out of six runs finishing 2nd or better. The booking of jockey Robbie Downey is another positive with a 25% strike rate in the last two weeks. It’s not so cut and dry however and the noticeable dangers to my selection come in the shape of Togoville who has put in two solid performances at Dundalk in it’s last two outings and there’s certainly no reason it can’t do it again but I fear it may now be in a more competitive race, despite there being less runners. I’m of the belief that the biggest danger however is maiden runner Chief Suspect. The horse has very inconsistent form but has a great jockey in the saddle and could push mine all the way. All this being said however I cannot look past the Eddie Lynam runner. Wishyouwerehere (WIN)
19:35 Dundalk My second selection comes in a very competitive race and it’s going to be pretty tough to call but I am a huge fan of my selections trainer when they have a runner here. I’m a huge Shabra Emperor fan and the horse is probably a deserved favourite but I fear it’s a horse that only wins once a season and is very hard to catch right so is best opposed today. Cases can be made for a good handful of the runners here but I feel with quite a few entrants it’s best to be drawn in the bottom half of the field. Of the six or so drawn lower you have to be taken by the two decent runs Fairy Foxglove put in at the course last month but with the horse not winning yet it couldn’t be trusted enough to come out on top. This leaves me with my selection and as eluded to before the horses trainer is on fire at Dundalk and she could have another winner here. Trainer Tracey Collins isn’t a very well known trainer and doesn’t have the biggest yard but seems to know how to get a horse ready for the artificial surface. She saddles the oldest horse in the race but if Captains Dilemma can recapture some of it’s form from this time last year it should have a brilliant chance. Captains Dilemma (E/W if 5/1+)
20:05 Dundalk My third and final selection comes in a race that only has eight runners but it could be argued is the most open race on the card with only one point separating the top four in the betting. As with my first selection Eddie Lynam has to be respected and is definitely the toughest threat to my runner, with the more than capable jockey also taking five pounds off the horses back it could easily win but I fear that this is a good step up in class and although it’s two last form figures show a third and a second they were in five runner races. On a personal note I would be very gutted if Political Policy wins tonight as I have tipped the horse a few times yet go against it here. My selection may be the top weight and has a jockey that doesn’t claim any weight but Tennessee Wildcat seems the class horse in this. With runs in it’s career at the likes of Newmarket, The Curragh and Meydan clearly it has shown a good level of performance previously and with a very close second last time out after being upped from six furlongs to a mile it should appreciate sticking with eight furlongs and should go one better this time around.
