17:45 Wolverhampton We kick off tonights Friday Night Lights with an each way punt. The favourite in the second at Wolverhampton tonight is the hat-trick seeking Risk ‘N’ Reward who has every chance of doing it. Despite the four year old favourites undoubted chances I couldn’t be overly confident being drawn in stall seven and doesn’t represent great value at around 7/4 in the betting. Of the remainder another liverly danger looks to be Scott Dixons Spowarticus who is given the plumb draw in stall one but I fear its inconsisten runs make you wonder which side of the horse we weill see. It is a horse that obviously has a great chance of getting into the places but is another that seems a bit too short in price. This obviously leads me on to my first selection and I’m opting for one of the older runners with eight year old Divine Call. Tonight is the first time top jockey George Baker has ridden the horse and coming from stall three is another positive. Yes it’s true that the horse hasn’t won for a while but it is on a very low mark and may improve on its fifth placed finish last time out. Divine Call (E/W)
19:05 Dundalk For our second pick we head over to Ireland for our obligitary trip to Dundalk as we take in an apprentice handicap. Ten year old Enigma Code has been tipped by myself the last two times it has run and despite it having course and distance winning form I am going against it today. No doubt good old fashioned sods law will strike me down but I have to look elsewhere. The horse that seems to be the favourite is Fairy Foxglove who rarely runs a bad race but with five placed efforts on the bounce you have to wonder wether the horse has lost its winning focus and that doubt is big enough for me to back against it here. As with the first selection from Wolverhampton we’re going with another eight year old in Captains Dilemma. If you have followed my selections from Dundalk you will know how much of a fan of trainer Tracey Collins I am as she seems to have worked wonders this winter with her forrays on the artificial surface at Dundalk. The horse finished sixth time last out which wasn’t too disappointing since it was its first run back since August last year and should strip fitter for it’s reappearance in January. It’s only one pound higher than its last win and despite being an apprentice the jockey has won on the horse before. It has a relitively decent draw in stall five and is definitely worth an each way punt. Captains Dilemma (E/W)
19:15 Wolverhampton There isn’t much time between our second and third picks tonight so we make a quick dash back over to the Midlands and take in Wolverhamptons penultimate race of the evening. The current favourite Aldebrugh comes from connections more renowned for their jumping exploits and it’s safe to say it’s quite a rarety that you’ll see a Nigel Twiston Davies on the all-weather with less than 30 runs on the flat artificial surface in the last five years. Obviously with a win and a thid placed finish in its last two runs it has to be respected but I fear that its only course run was when it finished twelth of twelve runners and doesn’t fill you with a great deal of confidence for a horse that is currently favourite. A horse I like, who seems very overpriced, is Tizlove Regardless. The well renowned trainer Mark Johnston has a good record at Wolverhampton with a 20% strike rate at the venue. If the four year old can recapture its form from this time last year it has to have a much greater chance than its price suggests. Tizlove Regardless (E/W if 5/1+)
